So 7 days late, how did I know he'd arrive on Halloween?! ![devil  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/devil.gif)
So had my sweep on Tuesday. Wasn't sure if it worked but on Wednesday, I lost my mucus plug and had my bloody show in the morning. Went to bed and got up to pee at about 12.30am but then I felt like I needed to poo. This feeling then escalated into contractions that were 3 minutes apart lasting about 40 seconds. This happened with my son though so I didn't hurry myself to the hospital but the contractions were getting pretty intense. So my husband called and they asked me to come in.
Went in to Triage and they sent me through to be assessed. By this point, I was bleeding quite heavily. She did an internal and said that I was 5cm dilated and that I could go straight through to the delivery suite for some pain relief - this put a smile on my face. I did it all naturally with my son because I had to for various reasons. So I thought thank god, I'm going to get some relief. Then she listened to baby's heartbeat. It was so slow, I actually thought it was just my heartbeat. Then she said to me that baby wasn't happy and apologised but said I needed to run to the delivery suite as baby needed to be delivered straight away. I literally ran - my husband in tow and my mum came with us as well. She was in the waiting room talking to another lady in labour and I heard her say "oh baby must be coming". I actually thought the baby had died. I was really worried. I thought they just weren't telling me as they needed me to remain calm. Baby had also been a bit quiet for the past day or 2 so this made me worry even more, but I thought it was because he was gearing up for labour.
So I ran to the labour suite where there were about 12 doctors/midwives. They checked me again and I was amazingly 8cms already - in literally seconds! They kept saying baby needed to be delivered otherwise I would have to go for a c-section immediately. Luckily, my body obviously wanted to deliver baby as I then felt the urge to push almost straight away. With my son, I remember them telling me not to push as I wasn't ready but this time, the doctor said to go with what my body was telling me. So I pushed and about 10 minutes later, my little precious boy was born, weighing 6lbs 11oz. He's absolutely perfect. The shock of it all caught up with me later when I kept bursting into tears. They said that the cord was wrapped around baby's neck and with each contraction, he was dropping into the pelvis which was choking him.
So I was in labour for a total of about 3.5 hours. With my son, it was 15 hours. I couldn't believe how quick it was! But this was very traumatic as I really did think I'd lost him! Ethan James was born at 3.40am on Halloween and I was home by 11.30am this morning. So glad to be home relaxing with my little family. I've barely heard a peep out of him all day, and hoping it stays this way for tonight at least. I'm so tired! xxx
