Hi ladies I haven't had my period in 64 days. I have PCOS and was referred to a FS as I have been TTC a year but NTNP since 2008. I met the FS on the 17th of Jan who was great and he told me he needed to check my tubes before givingf me any fertility treatment and gave me a form for the radiology department. They told me to call on the first day of my period. Well ive waitied a month and my period STILL hasn't arrived :dohh: I know im not pregnant because I done a test last night. So I rang them just now as im off work on Thursdays and they have booked me in for 9.20am next Thursday in Northwick park and im to do a pregnancy test that morning and bring it with me.

Im really nervous about it as I heard its painful....can anyone give me some comforting advice please? Thank you :hugs:x

I thought I was going to die before it because I was getting so worked up because I didn't know if it was going to hurt, and of course don't ever google procedures your getting, it just makes it ten times worse. But honestly it wasn't that bad, besides I had a doctor, nurse and a student, and my private parts like reflecting off a mirror, which was probably the worse part for me haha...but it was over in like a minute. I just had period like cramps afterwards. I took ibuprofen before though too. :P Good luck!

I've had it done. Some people have said it wasn't painful but I did find it extremely uncomfortable but it literally is just for about 30 seconds or so. When I had my appointment letter, it said the appointment was going to last 15 minutes so I automatically assumed that the discomfort would last that long. I had to ask the doctor how much longer I was going to feel the pain for and he said "just a few more seconds", which it was. So it really wasn't that bad because it was so fast. Sorry, hope I haven't scared you! To me, it was like really bad period pains. I had spotting for about 4 days after which is normal. Apparently it can make you more fertile as well. The doctor who performed the HSG said that now would be the time to get trying because it can "clear the cobwebs" - so basically it flushes your tubes so they are nice and clear x

I had this for the first time last month. It was really not bad at all! I would say not much more uncomfortable than a pap smear... like an extended pap smear. I took two Advil prior to going, which probably wasn't even necessary but can't hurt you. You'll be fine.

Thanks for the replies ladies....might take a few tablets before going in as u suggested! Were you able to return to work straight away? Im really nervous. And thanks Susan will get down to bedding straight away then lol xxx

I went right back to work. And I work across the street! I barely even needed the pad they sent me out with. I know everyone's experience is different, but that was mine!

I agree, different people experiences vary.
.
It took longer to talk through the procedure and consent forms than to do the procedure. I had intense cramps for about a minute. I took a couple of painkillers before HSG was done. I too barely needed the liner they gave me and I also went to work on a 8hr shift.

My right tube is fully blocked left is barely spilling dye. I did not have pain. I took 2 aleve. After hsg I'd call doctor to get provera to start period ESP since all over tests have been done.

hey there

i had mine 3 weeks ago now, and id read up all about it and was petrified. id never had anything like this before, never even been in hospital.

my stomach was doing flips all morning.

got there, filled out some forms and went into the cubicle to put on 2 gowns, i had to do a wee sample before hand and the lady did a pregnancy test whilst i was changing.

she asked if i knew what was going to happen, i said yes coz id read it. she explanied again.

went into the x ray room, still feeling sick. the lady who was doing it was so lovely.
there was a man doing the x ray but hes behind a screen taking the x rays and cant see anything thats going on, just takes a pic when the lady told him.

she gives you a wipe down there, she does put her fingers inside to see how your cervix sits and then puts in the speculem, cant spell that ha, inserts the cathater which you barely feel inserts the dye which is a tiny amount, you do feel it go in but nothing you cant handle. the x rays get done so quickly and she shows them after.
it was absolutely fine, i wworried so much for nothing, honestly you will be fine love.

when you get up they give you a pad and tissue coz its very sticky when the liquid comes back out and i had a tiny bit of a bleed. about an hour or 2 later i had a few pains like my period was about to start and that was it.
ive hard not many people get severe pains.

hope this helps. its honestly so fine and nothing to worry about.

good luck x

The worst part of my HSG was the worrying beforehand! It was not too bad at all, some discomfort for about a minute max. I took 3 ibuprofen before since I was worried about pain. After I had zero pain but I was a bit groggy from the ibuprofen, two would have sufficed :) YMMV - I hear it is much more painful if you have blockages in your tubes.

I had mine done last week and it was absolutly fine, i joked with the nurse that i wish my period pains were like the hsg as i didnt feel anything at all! it was pretty much like a smear, it felt a little warm (odd feeling i dont know how to describe it) when the put the catherter in, but apart from that, i felt nothing. there were loads of people in the room well about 5, that embarrased me a bit... but i guess i have to get used to people looking at my lady bits!

good luck :) oh and i went right back to work :hugs:

I had mine today and it was fine. Brief crampy pain as the dye was put in but this settled very quickly. I went straight back to work and have felt absolutely fine.

Hello Ladies. Thanks for your amazing replies! I was due to have a HSG on Thursday (2 Days ago) But I came on my period last Saturday! The reason I was booked in for Thursday was because I hadn't had a period since December so they told me to come in on Thursday and do a pregnancy test before hand. HOWEVER because I did come on my period 2 days after booking the appointment they said I would only be 6 days into my cycles and the HSG had to be performed between 8-15....SO I have to wait now until the first day of my next period in March (Which I know wont show up as I ALWAYS miss a month) then phone them and see if they have anything available if not I will have to try the following month!!!I need this done before the 17th of April as thats when my next appointment with FS is and I was hoping to be ATLEAST prescribed with metformin or Clomid then!! so fed up! In the past week Ive had TWO dreams that I had a little boy...not to mention the amount of dreams I have had previously about me having a child! Feels terrible when you actually wake up and realise that you aren't a mother its an actual dream, especially when you remember saying in your dream "This is what it feels like to be a mummy" Even in my dream I had been struggling to conceive!

Anyway thanks for the replies ladies xxxxxx

Ah! I wish I had of read all these replies before I got mind! I was SO worked up before I got mine back in December! I had heard it was painful!

I went in there nervous as heck (making nervous jokes to the doctor, nurses and technicians..."Anyone want some popcorn before the show starts?" They didn't find it as funny as I did!)

But mine was a piece of cake (mmm...cake...)! As uncomfortable as a pap smear, over in seconds and very minimal cramping! I did take tons of ibruprofen beforehand though! Maybe that was my saving grace!
