Hi ladies. I had my daughter on the 21.02.15. Only just got round to posting. I was kept in on the 19.02.15 with the start of pre eclampsia. Ended up in a wing with the worlds loudest snorer and got no sleep. On the 20.02.15 they did more tests & the consultant said i needed starting off. He said he would phone labour ward and get me sent up.this was 9am. A midwife came round an hour later & said labour ward was shutting as it was too busy. I was annoyed by now as partner had booked the day off
I was being induced on the 23rd anyway and i was knackered.
all afternoon we waited patiently. At 5pm i went to the front desk & asked if i was being started & if not id rather go home as we lived an hour away and come back monday. Car parking etc another 2 days seemed pointless if nothing was being done. Plus the midwives could come to my house to do bp checks..
anyway at about 5.30 suddenly i was allowed to be started off
(Amazing what abit of pushing does) they did more tests and at 9.00pm they put in the pessary. I went back to the ward & tried to get some sleep. Half an hour later i woke up with uncontrolable shakes. Felt a tiny bit sick and hot too. They took me back down to labour ward & the shaking stopped within ten mins. The midwife saw a contraction on the graph but i had not felt it. They kept me in the room for a while on my own. My partner came back from the hotel. Within half an hour of the midwives leaving me i started contracting every 3 minutes. After about 20 mins my partner went to look for a midwife. They gave me paracetamol & codeine and left us again
I don't think they realised how much pain i was in so my partner went again to find someone. I was given gas and air and diamorphine. Gas & air really helped for the first few hours. Amazing stuff.
the next 6 hours were intense contractions. I had different midwives constantly. They were good but rushed off there feet. I wanted an epidural. They said they were getting me one but it never came
there was an emergancy or two so nobody was available.
At the end i had a doctor cut me (it did not hurt). They were going to use suction as i could not get past 9cm. I managed to push her out myself though i felt i couldn't. She was born at 6.32am.
My labour was 7 hours. It was intense but i got through it on alot less pain relief than i wanted. I am proud of myself for that. I cringe abit at how i handled things. I was panicky but i think that was because i felt like i did not have any one on one time with the midwives. But it honestly was ok. I had a catheter put in and pulled out. I had no idea! You suprise yourself how you switch off from alot of whats going on.
My labour was only this intense as i was induced & i reacted funny to it hence the shaking.
All you first time mums will do it. If i can :-D
