My laparoscopy story

The hospital phoned at 11.45 today to tell me the op has been cancelled tomorrow so now no op for me now until the 3/01/12 as apparently they have an emergency- surely if it was an emergency it woud have been dealt with today not tomorrow! I was in tears when I got off the phone I was ready for the op deep down! Just had enough now! I have to be scared for another 3 weeks now! xx

Ugh, I'm SO sorry! I would've been frustrated, too. It does seem odd that they called today about an emergency that'll effect something tomorrow. Maybe something was supposed to happen today that now has to happen tomorrow, thus making no time for your procedure? I don't know, but boooo!

And, thank you for asking. I am feeling better. I can feel things down there when I move certain ways, but it's nothing bad at all. I'd say I've been at 90% since one week after the surgery. I guess the remaining 10% may take a while.

My ovulation was bad, though...

I know right, I will just have to wait the three weeks now nothing I can do about it...
Im glad youre at 90% hun thats good in a week right?

Oh no was your ovulation really painful? Are they going to track you to see if you ovulate or are you just temping/using opks?
x

Almost 2 weeks since my lap....and probably 95% (+) now :) Just occasional twinges and such when I move certain ways. Nothing bad, though!

Yes, my ovulation was painful....like it is when I do injections. Uncomfortable to stand up straight, slightly painful to walk, etc. Nothing 400mg of Motrin wouldn't cure, though :)

Moving forward I'm not sure what we'll do. My previous 3 cycles I did injections and was monitored....used a trigger, too, so everything was very planned. Had to take this cycle off (no BDing even, for 2 weeks), so I didn't track ovulation. I'm curious to see what my RE says when we meet with him on Friday! Not sure if we'll go back to injections, or just Clomid, or nothing.

I am so glad youre feeling better hun :) 95% is great in two weeks!

Ouch what a horrible ovulation! Hopefully its a good sign and you catch the egg!
Im meant to be doing trigger and clomid if everything is ok after my op as I didnt respond very well to just clomid.

No bd? The docs all tell people different i have found reading on here... Well I take back that you cath the eggy and that you catch it next cycle then! Let me know how you get on friday will be good to find out what they have planned for you :)

Thanks for posting your story Lizzy. I have a lap scheduled two weeks from today and I'm really nervous about what to expect. This is really helpful.

Yeah, no bd for two weeks. I too have heard that doctors say different things about that. In fact, one nurse from my RE's office told me I would be able to try that month....then another said 2 weeks. They need to get their facts (according to this doctor) straight! :)

Had my follow-up yesterday and it went well! He said we could try nothing...no intervention, like a "normal" person, OR that we could do meds. I asked for his recommendation and he said Clomid + trigger, so we'll try that for a few months (well, hopefully only need it for one!).

He looked at my incisions and about my belly button said "that's gross!", which I found amusing. The surgical glue is coming off and I peeled a bit of it off a week or so ago and it HURT, so I'm not planning on doing that again. He told me I could peel the stuff in my belly button off, but I said 'no....hurts too much.' It'll just have to look gross....it's clean, just gross-looking :)

Lizzy- I am so glad that your follow up appointment went ok! YUK about the belly button thing tho but as longs as its clean its all okay :)
Clomid and trigger is what the doc said I will probably do after the lap if everthing is fine... But takes months to see him so doubt I will start straight away... I hope that you only need one round!

xlalax- Yes it sucks about my op! Hopefully they dont cancel again! Good luck please let me know how you get on! good luck! Hope its all good news

Lizzy,

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your account of your lap. I had mine on Tuesday and reading yours really helped. Like you it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I can get up and walk around today.

One issue I hope you could help me with though is they didn't give me any after care advice. I still have two giant plaster like things over my belly button and lower down. The belly button one is covered (inside) of dry red blood. When did you remove yours? How did you do it, did it hurt? Any help or advice you or anyone could give would be fantastic. I'm sat here wondering what to do

Thank you!

I'm so glad it helped and that your lap wasn't as bad as you thought! Are you still feeling pretty good? Do you have any pain for the CO2?

I'd call the doctor to get your question answered! Is it surgical glue? All I had when I woke up was the glue on the incisions...and an ice pack. The glue is completely gone on two of my incisions (as of yesterday/today, I think - 3 weeks after the lap). My belly button is still a mess...dried blood stuck under the glue.

IF it's glue, leave it alone :) It hurts a lot to take it off (I've tried little pieces 2x), and you're not supposed to mess with it for a while. I went to the doctor 16 days after my lap and at that point he told me I could remove it...but again, I won't do it because it hurts too much. It's adhered to my skin and pulling it off is like pulling off skin, or close to it.

Hope this helps!

Its hurts around my belly button especially when bending but I think that's the dried blood and surgery dressing pulling the skin and probably bruising. My shoulders only hurt during the first night I think he must have gotten rid of most of the gas before luckily!

I know I have disposable stitches but haven't seen them yet, I phoned the nurse but she was useless just said remove the bandage after a few days and put a new one on if I wanted. She said she forgot to give me a replacement but any you buy is okay. No tips or help in how.

Wow 16 days is a long time! Other than that are you now 100%?

I had that too, the pain around my belly button (and that area) when bending...or rolling over, or moving in certain ways.

I'm glad you didn't have much pain from the gas!

Boo to the nurse. I'm sorry they weren't more helpful!

I think I'm 100%, or very close. A few days ago I bumped into something with my stomach and it hurt, but other than rare things like that, I'm good.

Hi ladies. I have a quick question for you all. How much longer than your regular cycles did it take for you to get AF? I am normally right at 27 - 28 days, and i bled for a week after my lap. The nurse told me that was AF but I haven't had a normal flow since. That was 34 days ago. I'm getting bfn so i know thats not it. I am just ready for AF to get here so we can get a fresh start. I am not sure how much of a delay is normal. I know a week isn't much but it sure seems like it when youre ttc.
