After weeks of false contractions, Friday morning (as a snow storm hit!) I felt contractions that prompted my to call L&d and also my mil to watch my lil one. I knew they weren't strong or regular enough yet, at 8 minutes apart and mild, but due to the snow (and a previous quick delivery) I thought we should go to the hospital to check.
About 11am off we went. 1cm! I expected that. I take a while early labour but o go extremely fast in established labour. So off we went home.. Contractions still not that close.
At home they got progressively closer together until at about 4.30 they were 4 mins apart. I would have carried on labouring at home, but the snow was too bad, so we went back. 2cm! Great. But MW believed my story of quick labours and got me a room on ante natal ward to labour in.
By 8.30 my contractions were back to back. That assessment MW had gone off duty and no one had checked me, I had no gas and air etc.. I told my DH please call them because I need to be checked and get to labour ward.
Student MW came and said there's no mw around as all in emergency but gave me g&a and went off saying we'll be back asap.
About 5 mins later I felt babies head move down.. I knew he was close so screamed at DH, go get someone now! He rsn out onto ward shouting and another mw came back with student, checked me.. 4-5cm.. I told her, I'm going to deliver in the next hour.. DH was kissing me saying well done sweetheart.. I said to mw, he knows he's nearly here, she said so do we!
They put me on bed, got gloves (in case o deliver in lift!) and take me up to delivery. On way up, I don't gave any contractions so we were joking saying they won't believe us!
Met by mw there who was fab. She didn't check me but I carried on with contractions for about 5 mins and waters went. At the end of each contraction now I could feel babies head and thought maybe o need to push. Got onto bed, mw said, lets push this baby out!
I started to push and she checked me, said yes baby ready. I'd been in labour ward about 20 mins. Started pushing and she soon realised he was getting a bit excited, so said, we really need to get him out. She took away my gas and air, told me no shouting just push! DH said she went and got some tools ready.
I pushed out his head and she should at DH, pull that emergency cord now, they'll all come running in. He did and started shouting quickly! They came in, mw said, shoulder distocia?? and they did something with my legs gave me some instructions and ge was out!! Was a bit shocked but fine. Cord was around his neck several times and shoulders got caught, they tore me open but all worth it!
My beautiful baby boy Zachary was welcomed into the world at 10.37pm Friday 18th Jan, weighing 7lb 8oz.. And I'm so in love!
