Ok so i had a consultant appointment on weds (27th feb) where I got given a rather painful examination/sweep so that he could determine if I would be favourable for induction the following weds (6th march). He decided that I would and booked it in. I went home and was getting some cramping, not painful, just uncomfortable. This carried on all afternoon until late in the evening when it eventually settled down. I went to bed as normal feeling no different from usual and after struggling to get into a comfy position fell asleep.
Fast forward a few hours and whilst laying in bed I sensed something and the next thing I knew a lot of warm fluid came gushing out, this was about 4.30am. I immediately told DH that my waters had gone which sent him into panic mode
and I waddled to the bathroom to sit on the toilet. I was drenched so I took my bottoms off and just sat there with it draining out for a moment, then I panicked because I remembered that at my scan the day before his head hadn't been above the pelvis and there was a risk of the cord prolapsing. I told DH I needed to get on my hands and knees with my bottom in the air on the floor while he went to fetch my mum to look after the girls. He gave me the phone to call labour ward so I did that whilst on the floor too ![haha :haha: :haha:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/haha.gif)
I hadn't been getting contractions but whilst DH was gone I started to get some mild ones, it scared me a bit because I could already feel some pressure with them even though I was trying my best to keep everything away from my cervix at that point. Anyway every time I had a tightening more fluid gushed out all over our rug!
He got home and took me to the car, all the while more fluid pouring out! I opted to stay on my knees in the back of the car which did not make for a fun ride, but it was over soon enough. When we got to the hospital and I stood up to walk in, I gushed yet more fluid all down my legs and into my uggs
should have worn flip flops! Anyways I went straight to labour ward so they could check baby's position and get me on the monitor and also check that there was no cord present.
Then it got a little scary, they had been monitoring the baby and also had a pulse monitor on me. The midwife was not happy that she was seeing two separate heartbeats and so kept asking the reg to bring the scanner in so they could get a visual check on his heart rate. Well after about an hour of her holding the ctg disk on my belly and not being happy the reg agreed to scan me again. It took her about 15 minutes to find the heartbeat and I was getting more and more panicked at this point, saying to DH that I knew there was something wrong with him because I hadn't felt him move since my waters went. She kept moving the wand and still couldn't see it so I looked away in the end as I was absolutely certain by this point that she would say there wasn't a hb anymore. Then finally she said there it is and showed us and I just burst into tears, it was without doubt one of the most scary times of my life. As soon as she had found it and they put the disk on where they'd seen it you could hear it clear as day, thank goodness!
I had to have a drip up to bring on the contractions because his head was still so high and because I had to be continuously monitored I asked for an epidural as I knew with how worried I was and that fact I couldn't move, I just wouldn't cope with the pain. The aneathatist came in straight away and put it in and they started the drip, they said they would examine me at 12noon to see what progress I'd made (when I arrived I was 2-3, but long). With every contraction I was still gushing fluid, I never thought so much could come out of one person! I think they used all the inco pads in the room the first couple of hours of me being there and had to get the tray restocked!
At around 11am they commented that baby's heart rate was dipping slightly with contractions and they wanted the reg to come in and check the trace. He asked what time I was due for examination and he decided to bring it forward slightly, I think it was around 11.20am and he examined me and decided while he was there to collect a blood sample from the baby to make sure he wasn't stressed, he took that and then decided that he wanted to put a scalp electrode on the baby head to keep track of his heart rate, because they kept losing it as he was moving down into the pelvis. While he was doing all this he said I was about 4-5cm, however the head was still high and it could be a while. Fast forward 10 minutes or so from when he finished and I was getting serious pressure and really feeling pushy although I was also trying not to as I didn't want to damage my cervix if it was only 5cm dilated. I told the midwife and she told me to just push if I wanted and she was pretty sure if I was saying I needed to then it was time. So I started pushing I think at around 11.45am and at 11.59am baby Ruben made his entrance into the world helped along by a midwife and daddy
He weighed in at 8lb9oz which I was shocked at because in the clinic they kept saying he wasn't going to be a big baby! My last LO was a whole 2 weeks later than this little man and only weighed 7lb6oz! I dread to think how much he's of weighed if I'd have gone on that much longer, probably well over 9lb I should imagine.
So in a pregnancy where I worried continuously, firstly about needing the suture in because of my incompetent cervix and then later on because of having polyhydramnios (way too much fluid), he came out absolutely perfect and gorgeous. I couldn't have wished for anything more
