Just to sum up my past, I've had several MC's and a partial molar pregnancy loss in at 12w 2009 which required chemotherapy, all clear for that, then fertility treatment with clomid to conceive due to short cycles and low sperm count! Our eldest son then followed in 2011, in hospital, induced posterior delivery at 40w+
This is my birth experience with baby #2![flower :flower: :flower:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/flower.gif)
38w+2d - Started off with general discomfort and regular BH's in the morning, which turned into light contractions by lunchtime. Went for a long walk as DH was working all day and I didn't want them to fizzle out again like the weds night prior!
By tea time they still seemed to be coming and were painful enough to make me short tempered! Phoned L&D who told me it was 'head fitting pains' which made me doubt myself about being in early labour again!![haha :haha: :haha:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/haha.gif)
Managed to sort dinner and bath for Sidney, then put him to bed about 7.30. Contractions got a bit more painful so I decided to have a bath to test if they were true labour or not. They seemed to stop in the bath so I got out feeling a bit disheartened. Lay down on my bed and then suddenly (by now 8.30pm) it all kicked off properly and I was having to breathe through them! Had to wait for DH to finish his shift which was slightly worrying as things were hotting up fast, By the time he walked in I was on all fours leaning over the back of the sofa puffing through! Had what seemed like millions of contractions in the car and arrived at the hospital 10pm.
Examined by assessment lady as she wasn't sure if I was admittable as I wasn't making a huge fuss, so may not be in established labour. Cue panicked look on her face, and sudden need for my IV antibiotics right away! (I just swabbed positive for GBS the week before)
Once the drip was in she said I was 6cm and very effaced, head very low, contracting 4:10 and strong. I hopped about while the abs went in and my MW turned up at 10.30. By now I was really working hard and breathing through the contractions, but inbetween felt ok and chatted to the MW about various stuff. The MW was a hands off gentle natural birth type lady (fab for me!) so just let me do my thing. I naturally assumed the all fours position and used the back of the bed for support. 11.00 ish started getting involuntary pushing urges as part of the contractions, but we weren't sure if this was my waters bulging or progress. Contractions then took on a whole new level and I asked for the gas and air to be set up ready, as I knew transition was here. Was still managing to hold it together, I was adamant that this time I wouldn't let labour get on top of me and that I would remain composed lol!
11.20pm started the G&A, contractions went through the the roof and pretty much led one into another, pushing urge got really strong, so midwife ran a finger round to check if it was the head or sac bulging, my waters went pop, the head dropped immediately, I crowned and pushed the head out involuntarily all in one go, felt the pressure but no 'ring of fire' or pain at all... and before the midwife could say pant.. @11.28pm the rest of him shot out and he landed on the bed in a heap!!
The MW didn't want to interfere, so I picked him right up myself and flipped on my back for some skin to skin![Cloud 9 :cloud9: :cloud9:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/cloud9.gif)
I was completely with it and felt totally myself, the clarity I felt with this birth was very empowering and exactly how I planned my homebirth (which was obviously abandoned due to the GBS thing)
We then waited for the cord to stop pulsing before daddy cutting it and I breastfed while waiting for the placenta, which came out with a couple of little pushes from me about 20 mins later!
No tears, just a very small graze I could barely feel. I had a shower and then unfortunately had to go down on the ward overnight so they could observe baby Vincent for any sign of GBS. Better safe than sorry though!
Hubby went home to be with our toddler and we all went home as a family of four at lunchtime the next day!![Happy Dance :happydance: :happydance:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/happydance2.gif)
