The Day My Life REALLY Began..
Id been feeling small gushes all day (17th) and the day before, so decided to get checked out. I went to the birth unit where id planned to give birth and they did a speculum and found my waters had in fact gone. They told me I had 24hours to go into labour naturally (by 7pm wed) or i would be induced the following morning.
Now induction was the last thing i wanted bar a csec and i desperately wanted my natural water birth at the centre! So I spent all day on the wed trying to induce labour.. I drank countless RLTs and took loads of EPOs and went ona 5mile walk with my mum! But of course there was no luck LO didnt want to budge! However a bit later that night i started getting small aches and was relieved thinking i was going naturally! Well LO had other ideas too! That night i couldnt sleep.. It was the most surreal thing knowing the next day i could be meeting my baby and definitely would by the weekend!
The thursday morning i headed to the hosp for 8:30 and once there got settled into one of the antenatal rooms. At 11:00 i was placed on the monitor to track DDs heartand finally at 12:25 i was given prostagladin gel and told I was already 2cm
. Then i went for a wwalk with mum to cafe and at about 2 my contractions started about every 3mins! But they werent too strong.
Then my dad and sister came and they got worse and worse and my sister and mum were massaging my back along with my tens machine! At 18:45 i gave in and decided i needed some pain relief so got cocodomol. By 9 the contractions were strong and frequent at about every 50 secs for 45secs so i decided to take a bath and that felt sooo good!
And then at 11 I had some more cocodomol but it did absolutely nothing!!
Finally at 11:55 after I hyperventilated in pain, the midwives gave in and examined me and I was 7cm!! So they sent me straight to labour and delivery!
I finally got some gas and air! So the next bit was a bit hazy! I was on the bed on the monitor and the midwife checked me I was 8cm and broke my fore waters and suddenly the contractions came very hard and fast!
Then the registrar came in and tried to give me an IV for antibiotics and I went totally quiet so she got the anaesthesetist who I thought was very horrible and kept telling me if I didnt have the IV and my baby died it would be my fault
but everytime he came near me I hyperventilated and my contractions stopped.
I finally started pushing at about 6am but by 7 they were trying to get me to have an epidural and prep theatre because she wasnt moving down at all! So the consultant took fetal blood and realised her head was stuck behind my cervix so he unstuck her and I began to push well! At about 7:30 the head was almost crowning and they tried to give me an episiotomy but I refused and they said I could end up tearing very badly and become incontinant!! But I still said no i want to tear naturally!
So I began to pant the rest of her head out and finally at 8:33am after 2 and a half hours pushing, Isabella Christine Darcie Bowden was born weighing a big 9lb 2oz! I delivered the placenta physiologically as I wanted and got instant skin to skin and she breastfed almost inmediately! :') And I came away with a 2nd degree tear which suprised the midwives at how 'minor' it was! My mum was the best birth partner ever and the midwives said she should become a doula! My dad and sister came in straight away and my sister cut the cord![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
It was the most empowering experience of my life and although it didnt go to plan I'd happily do it all again for my beautiful daughter![Heart <3 <3](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/PurpleHeart.gif)
