Hi ladies,
I always thought I would have an empowering natural vaginal birth story to tell but life had different plans for me.
At 38 weeks pregnant my doctor confirmed that my baby was a big boy and recommended a c-section, in my country doctors do their best to let you have a vaginal birth, we do not have epidurals available for VB and I was looking forward to such an empowering experience but it was not meant to be.
The doctor scheduled my c-section for Oct 25th, one day after my birthday, 7 days before that I got sick instantly! awful coughing basically was the main thing, I insisted and asked many times if this would affect my surgery as I could barely move of how pregnant I was lol every doctor said no, it will be ok.
On the 25th I was at the hospital at 6 am, scared, excited, happy!! they immediately got me the hospital gown ( here we cannot use our own and I was on my way! as soon as I got to the labor part of the hospital they took my info and then the doctor came and said: I will be doing your c-section, I was ready!! then an older doctor walked by and heard me coughing, he said: ummm you sound too sick for a c-section
I wanted to cry, honestly i was so desperate and tired, the anesthesiologist came and spoke to me, he explained how risky it was to perform a c-section with my respiratory condition atm, they decided to send me to maternity and wait for my coughing to go away.
At 3 pm I was still sitting in the labor place and I was exhausted! so they got me a bed there, every 10 minutes you would hear someone yell baby!! and then people would run and you would hear a baby cry, I cried with every baby that was born that afternoon lol I was so touched and so excited and scared.
They finally got me a bed in maternity, we don't get individual rooms here, we have big rooms with 4 women each and there are curtains but you end up leaving them open to socialize
I was there for 2 days with medication and my coughing kept getting worst, every morning a doctor came to check on everyone and on the 27th the doctor who came said: I will do the c-section today, Im sure you're sick because you are pregnant
I could barely breathe but I thought well he knows what he is doing
In 10 minutes I was puttin on my green clothes and there was two nurses waiting to take me into the operating room, I'm glad I didn't know what I was about to go through.
They explained how the anesthesia worked and asked me to bend as much as I could, as soon as they put it I didn't feel my legs anymore and they lay me down and tied my wrists to the operating bed, Immediately I felt like I could not breathe. I am a big girl and neing on my back with that belly and sick didn't help much. The doctor kept asking me to breathe using my nose but it was impossible and then I could not talk either! he then put an oxygen mask on me and I had to look at him and keep reminding myself that he was there to keep me alive![dohh :dohh: :dohh:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/doh.gif)
Then the other doctor said: "mom look what I got for you!! a big boy look at those chubby cheeks!!" and then I saw my baby! I could not cry as i could barely breathe but when they put his cheek on my cheek I said "I love you" it was more like a whisper but Im sure he heard it![Cloud 9 :cloud9: :cloud9:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/cloud9.gif)
It took them 20 more minutes to finish everything and the I was taking to the recovery salon, OMG! huge place with room for at least 20 patients I would say and all I could think was:
1- I so wish I could have had a vaginal delivery!!
2- No more babies for me!!
3 - OMG I can't breathe!!
After 5 hours they sent me back to maternity and gave me my little boy
I was able to drink water 8 hours after the surgery and 12 hours after the surgery they let me get up and take a warm shower.
I'm sure it was a bad decision to perform the c-section on my condition, I was coughing for almost 2 weeks since the moment I left the operating room and It caused me a lot of pain and even hemorroids
My mom was my best friend and passed 4 years ago from ovarian cancer. before she passed she said to me: "I don't want to die without being a grandma" unfortunately she did
Oct the 27th, the day my little boy was born, was her 4 year passing anniversary. I hope wherever she is she can see her grandson. I would have never imagined that a day that was always so sad for me would become the happiest of my life.
As per the c-section, to be honest I would not mind going through it all over again, I was never so happy![Heart <3 <3](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/PurpleHeart.gif)
Oh! here is my boy, 9 pounds and 21 inches![Baby :baby: :baby:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/baby.gif)
