I finally had a good night's sleep, so I should have known something was up. I was fed up with all of the labor inducing methods. I'd had curry the night before, and maybe that's what triggered it. Who knows??? Maybe it was just time. But, I sat down on my ball and played some card games with my mom, sister and OH, and I started feeling contractions. They were the first time during the pregnancy that I'd had contractions during the day. I went from nothing to contracting every 3-5 minutes. I told my mom that maybe she shouldn't go to work because it might be time, and we finished our card game about an hour after the contractions began. We were on teams, and mine won while I was in labor. Haha

After the game, my mom went to work and promised to be quick. My sister decided to go home and feed her dogs in case we needed to rush off to the hospital at some point. My 10 year old nephew was outside playing with some neighborhood kids, and my sister was freaking out that he didn't come when called and we didn't know exactly where he was. So, I dug my bike out of the garage and rode it down the street to find him while his mom searched in the woods behind the house for him. While I was riding my bike, still contracting, I started to feel moisture down below. Yep, my water had broken, and it was coming out in gushes. I wasn't positive that it was my waters and thought I just kept peeing myself because the baby was down so low.

After I decided it was my waters, I hopped in the shower, ran up and down the stairs a few times, and got our last minute things together. Then, we sat down, and my family ate dinner. I was too nauseated and anxious to eat, so I drank my last cup of raspberry leaf tea - made with 4 bags to prep me for that pushing. Then, we said bye to our 17 month old and headed to the hospital. We took our time getting there because I was certain that I wasn't close. We laughed and joked around the whole way over. I got to the hospital at 4 cms and got to 6 cms after an hour or so. From there, the contractions were a minute apart, so I got an epidural because I wanted to get some sleep! The epidural hurt so much. I had forgotten how awful they feel!!!

After I rested for 2-3 hours, I realized my contractions had completely gone. I hadn't progressed since the epidural, and it had calmed my uterus and stopped labor. Oh come on!!!!!!!!! My midwife and I agreed to start Pitocin, and I decided to stop the epidural. It wore off as soon as we stopped the drip, and I got to 9 1/2 cms after about two hours and felt the need to push. My MW checked me about two minutes later, and I was a strong 10, and baby's head was about to crown from my body deciding to push on its own. After 4 minutes and 3 pushes, he was out of there. I had a tiny tear because I pushed him out so quickly, but I did not ever expect to feel a baby's head there and wanted that over with as soon as possible.

Let me just say that it was one of the coolest experiences of my life, feeling all of that. However, next time, i might ask to get the epidural and just start Pitocin right away. Maybe I will decide to just go drug-Free! Yeah, right. My second baby is here, happy and healthy. He was born 3 days before his due date, weighing 7 pounds, 14 oz and is 20 1/2" long.

Congratulations! What a story to tell! How funny, I can't help but imagine seeing a very heavily pregnant woman riding down the road on a bike with her waters gushing! I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, bt it sounds funny now. Congratulations on your beautiful baby. Im glad it was quick for you. Xx

lol, it was hilarious at the time, as I'm riding around looking like a nut with a trail of fluid dripping behind me. I wonder what the slew of neighbors who were outside thought of that. Thanks, all! :)
