Hiya my ds is 7 weeks old and i took him to the doctors to get something for his excema thats on his face neck and shoulders. The doctor gave me some doublebase gel/ cream but when ive applyed it he screams and seems to be in pain does anyone have any experiences with this cream? My ds will happily let me appky e45 so its not because he doesnt like me doing normally hes all smiles wen i put e45 on butnot this doublebase. Please sum1 help

I use double base on myself and if the eczema is a bit raw it can stung. It's also colder than e45 as its a gel not cream.

I find that the more waterbased an emollient is the more it stings. Is it actually improving the eczema? I don't know how it works with babies but with adults emollients like doublebase are for prevention and steroid creams (such as hydrocortisone cream) are for getting rid of eczema patches). A lot of GPs are pretty useless at prescribing for eczema and tend to just prescribe everybody the same thing (often the cheapest option - hence why they were so keen on aqueous cream for so long even though it often made things worse). Sorry that was a bit off topic...

Anyway, there are lots of different emollients out there (i use one called zerobase but that is after years of experimenting) so it doublebase doesn't work out ask for something else to try. This is an area of the NHS where financial constraints really do apply (as it's non-fatal) so you have to be a bit pushy in my experience.

My LO has Doublebase for eczema and it's really helped. We had e45 before, but it didn't help at all. When LO's eczema is really raw she does scream when I put the hydrocortisone and doublebase on. After 1 or 2 doses though she's all smiles whilst I'm creaming her again.

GP's and eczema are useless! I've had more help from my health visitor! The GP hasn't even looked at her skin, and when I first said the e45 didn't work she just prescribed more hydrocortisone! The health visitor gave us the doublebase which I then went back and asked for on prescription.

Pls don't use doouble base on your newborn. I did and still blaming myself as itt peeled his skiin and gave him severe eczema. At your LO's age, just use coconut oil. Doublebase has sodium lauryl in it which is a detergent that iss used in soap and can further irritate sensitive skin. If you use cooconut oil just ensure is unrefined. Amazon sells one. In fact for cradle cap, just apply it and watch it fade away. All the best.

Yep, coconut oil is the best! My lil one has super sensitive skin and I couldn't find ANYTHING to use that worked as a moisturizer (or a diaper ointment) on her. She'd break out in an awful rash (not to mention diaper rash was a problem too). Anything I put on her made her SCREAM in pain which made me cry right along with her.
I bought some coconut oil and within a week's time, her skin looks GREAT :) Nice and healthy looking, no rash at ALL. :happydance:
Highly recommend.

I don't know what Double Base is, but I agree that I have eczema and very sensitive skin. ANY cream put on my skin BURNS. If there are any breaks in the skin, it REALLY, REALLY hurts. Poor kid. I also agree with PPs saying coconut oil works wonders. I used organic, unrefined, on my OWN eczema, and it helps a LOT. I put in on a few times a day whenever my eczema is acting up badly. It doesn't hurt at ALL, and EVERYthing else I put on my skin does.
