So for those that followed my other post about being on the fence re: elective csection or trying for a VBAC for my second baby, here is my birth story:

Because I found out I was having another small baby (only ~30th percentile, my DS was also small), I decided to try to keep her inside cooking for as long as possible, and go for a VBAC.

On a tuesday evening at 1am, my waters started leaking, woke up my hubby and we started getting ready. Because I was Group B strep negative this time (positive first pregnancy) we were able to wait at home for a few hours, contractions started but were not intense nor were they regular. Around 7am we decided to go into hospital to get checked, and I knew I was not very far along, but was still leaking waters this whole time.

I was only about a 1-2cm, and they told us to go home and walk a lot to get labour started on its own. We did that, and returned to hospital about 3pm (as they told us to) to get checked as that would be about 12 hrs since my waters started going. Well everyone decided to have a baby that day and we waited 3 hrs just in triage before even getting to see a dr!! I was getting antsy as they were scaring me re: risk of infection after 12 hrs of broken waters, and noone would see us as they were full up.
Finally around 6pm we got checked and i was about 3-4cm and we were admitted to a labour room. Contractions were still mild and not regular, but were getting somewhat closer at about 7-10 min apart. Then we saw a really nice dr who told us he would let me labour a while longer to see if my body would regulate contractions on their own. We had a bad experience with oxytocin the first time and were really hesitant to take it again. I laboured a few more hours, and contractions got closer together, and I ended up getting an epidural around 1am that night. I was checked again sometime during the night and I was at 8cm but not moving, so dr wanted us to take a very low dose of oxytocin to get contractions more regular. I was concerned that baby wouldn't tolerate it (heart rate dipping) as that's what happened with my DS. But in fact, she tolerated it better than without, and we were happy we took it as I was at 10cm in no time. Nurses said first vaginal birth pushing is on average about 2 hrs, and I was so upset as I was already exhausted (2 nights NO SLEEP) and I was falling asleep talking to her - how was I going to push for two hours!???? We did two practice pushes, and she said "Ummmm I'm going to have to call the dr NOW!" 3 dr's rushed in, and a couple more pushes and her head was out, 1 more push and she was on my chest screaming and crying. It was only 20 min pushing! I had a very small 2nd degree tear, and they stiched me up but I didn't care. My daughter was born at 10:40am on May 29th, at 37 + 4 days (Exactly the same gestation as my son was born at!!!). She weighed a small but mightly 5 pounds 4 ounces. I will add a picture from my phone.

We took over two weeks to name her as we couldn't agree, but finally settled on Aubrey Esther Regev! She is named for two of her great-grandmothers. Her hebrew name is Adi (pronounced a-DEE). We are all doing great, she feeds like a champ, and her big brother Jonah is in love with her, he's so sweet and gentle, no jealousy whatsoever (yet!)

Thanks for reading!!!

What a great story. So glad you got your vbac and that pushing was super quick!

Congratulations on your VBAC, reading your story has given me hope that I will hopefully get my VBAC this time :) xx

Congratulations on your baby girl! It's good that you took your time naming her, it's not a decision to take hastily!
