Quick summary as i think this will be long! Baby florence lorraine was born at home on weds 26th feb at 7.16pm weighing 6lb15oz :happydance:

Wenesday 26th feb was my due date and i was pretty down during the day - i think because i'd been early with dd1 i just assumed i would be with number 2 as well. And babies never come on their due date, right? :haha:

Anyway, i took my daughter to ballet in the afternoon, came home, she skyped with FOB, then i stuck a film on for her so i could come on here and have a little moan! Anyway i was sat in the armchair and all of a sudden i was hit by a strong contraction. I was drumming my fingers on the armrest to distract myself, and hubby noticed (he works from home). He asked me if i was ok and i decided to retreat upstairs to see if i had anymore whilst dd watched the rest of her dvd.

I carried on contracting about every 5 mins. I alternated between pacing around, tidying up and sitting on the toilet trying to breathe through the pains. My dh realised i had been up for a while, so he bought up my TENs and some toast and left me to it (after telling me to stop leaning on our rickety bannisters for support!) We decided to ring the midwife shortly after (i think it was about half 6), along with a friend to collect dd and my mum who had a 1 and half hour drive to get to us.

My hubby was a star, he started getting the pool set up and organised dds bits and kept her entertained whilst i laboured upstairs. When our friend picked her up i ran down between contractions and kneeled down in front of the sofa whilst the pool filled. I kept looking over my shoulder to see if it was full yet! I started to realise i was pushing involunatarily with contractions so i put my hand to my perineum during a contraction and realised i could feel the head bulging behind it as i pushed! I told dh and he was like 'no no, it's fine' he was standing behind me at this point and was in fact just reassuring me as he could see the head when i was pushing....

Soon the pool was full and between contractions dh ripped my TENs off and i pretty much threw myself in! It was fab - it didn't take away the pain of contractions but it took my weight so i could focus better, as my knees and thighs had been aching from kneeling up. I had another contraction and pushed again, and dh said 'i'm gonna ring 999 babe' it barely registered at the time but the head was coming! The dispatcher stayed on the phone and he delivered the head, then there was a knock on the door! It was the midwife, dh opened the door shouted 'the heads out, go!' And they ran in and helped me whilst i pushed the body out and pulled baby up to my chest :cloud9:

(At somepoint around now a fast response paramedic walked in (think mw had left the door open) but i don't remember him arriving, just sort of being there. He was very sweet and later on after i was out of the pool he got me my dressing gown when i was cold and chatted to my dh)

Me and dh were laughing and i kept saying 'hello! Hello!' I just didn't know what to say, it felt amazing! The midwives asked what we had and i moved her cord and shouted 'it's a girl, it's a girl' and dh was like 'it's florence! I sat for a little while in the pool with her but my placenta didn't want to make a move so they clamped the cord and dh cut it and took her and i got out and had the injection and waited for the placenta to come (took a while but came eventually! I could tell the midwife was a tad worried as she asked the paramedic to loiter 'just in case' i'm guessing for transfer due to retained placenta) she checked me as well and i only had a graze - felt like cheering as last time i had a 2nd degree tear and an episiotomy!

Anyway we puttered around, my mum arrived, me and baby got under some blankets on the sofa for skin to skin and she breastfed for over an hour! The midwives cleaned up and left, and we got a takeaway...so surreal!

An amazing birth all in all, and we've had a good day since. Big sis loves her, she's breastfeeding beautifully, her newborn check was fine...i'm on :cloud9:
