Hi everyone,

This is my third baby (Girl) and Hubby and I are really struggling with a name. We have one that we both like and agree on which is Thea, the only issue is that my Nephew is Theo. We are a close family and see each other regularly. Would you let this put you off a name that you loved? I asked my Sister what she thought but she didn't really give me a proper answer making me think she'd be a bit annoyed, maybe I'm just being paranoid :(

I'd be grateful for any thoughts

I love Thea too but see your point. How about using Teddy as a nickname? Then it's not as close.

Thea is lovely. Could use teddy as a Nn (cute for a girl I think)
Theadora or Althea are similar but just that bit further from Theo? X

I have a cousin named Atheana, everyone calls her Thea for short. Perhaps you can work it in with an alternative name? Or Perhaps use it as a Middle name?

I can totally understand why your sister might not be all that enthusiastic about the idea.
I had a Baby in April 2014 - Athiliya (ath-il eeya) Rose. We call her Lily for short. My sister found out she was having a girl the fallowing month and decided to name her DD Athena LiliRose. Which is VERY close to my daughter's name, and she says the middles name is "in honor" of my DD. So I can understand.

I would probably go for a longer version like Althea (which I love), that way you can call her the full name when you're around your nephew (or find an alternative nickname like Allie for when you're around them), and you can still call her Thea whenever you're not.

I can definitely see why your sister wouldn't be happy about the similarity but in that situation I'd feel better about it if there was another name option when you're with them.
