Naming baby after passed away cousin

I would think that naming a baby after another's who has passed away would be extremely difficult for them. Your intentions are heart felt but I think it would be so painful to call the baby by that name knowing her baby didn't make it. I would honor her in a more subtle way. .. like maybe use a name with a similar meaning or another form of the name. For example. . If it was Katherine you could use Kaitlyn or Kate. But I'd check with how she feels about this for sure.

Hearing everyone call my SIL's daughter by my angels name brings back all the pain. How she can live with herself knowing what she did to me and her brother, I don't know.. She is just evil...

pumpkin90 - Have you talked with your family? What have you decided?

There's a huge difference between naming a baby after a deceased aunt/uncle or grandparent and naming a baby after another baby that was never able to be born and become a fully realized person. I wouldn't even ask - I would just leave it alone and find another name.

It's a very personal thing, you have to talk to them (involve the father too). I personally would hate my girls names to be used as a first name. My sister grew her wings from SIDS at 13 weeks, she had the middle name Ann as does my mum, so I asked my mum could we use it for a middle to honour them both and she liked it. My little girl who shares the middle name with them is an angel now too and I would have no issues someone using Ann as it's a family name and that's different, however using either Honey or Riley would be so hard for me.
