Hi,
I'm due to have another baby next month, when my son is just 20 months. I didn't get a special nappy bin for Jacob, we just use nappy sacks but we're going to have 2 in nappies so smell will be worse for sure. Do you think it's worth getting one of these nappy bins? I mean, do they really work?

If anyone uses them do you think they are worth the cost of cartridges? And are the lids secure so my toddler won't be able to get his cheeky hands in?!
Which one do you use, any pros or cons to mention?
Thanks xx

NO way! I got one and the cost of cartridges is so high, they don't even last that long. It was one of our most useless purchases!

No we NEVER use ours! And there a pain to empty when full! I wish I never wasted my money! X

I meant to put this on my 'things I'd never buy again' list in that thread. Don't bother, really expensive cartridges even when on offer. It's also really fiddly. I've hardly used ours.

I love ours!!! Used it with my toddler and now lo, we have the angelcare one. It keeps the smells in and takes seconds to empty. I didn't pay for it as I got a voucher to get it for free but I would buy one if I didn't have one xx

My son is six months old and we just use a regular bin with no lid. No smell at all, although apparently as he starts solids that might change. If I were you I would hold off on buying as it is really not necessary for the first 6 months. You can decide to get it later if the smell starts bothering you.

I can only echo what everyone else has said... Total waste of money!

As a ftm I thought it sounded like a brilliant idea, but we have never used ours.

I think it was a really good buy.the bin only cost about a tenner and the cartridges are on offer all the time and last a long time. I double up with a nappy bag too. Ours is upstairs so we don't have to run up and down to the bin.

I love ours too!!! it locks in the smell and you don't have to think about throwing the nappy in the outside bin to 'get rid of smell'. I've got the tommy tippee one and it is so easy to use with one hand. We use ours 24/7 when we are in the house xx

We used a diaper genie for 6 months
WASTE OF MONEY

seriously...it just sucks up money
just light a candle in LOs room to kill the smell

I just put the diapers in a plastic bag in the basement and take them to the trash every night

On the odd occasion ive had to use disposables I just roll them up when I take them off her... And then use the tabs to secure it shut, haven't smelled a thing.

We have one and use it all the time yeah the refills are expensive but you can put reg garbage bags in it works the same we have the elite 2

I just have a 3 gallon trash can for mine since I don't fill up my trash bag fast enough and the smell would take over.

Keeps the smell in and I buy the 3 gallon little bags and it holds about 30 dirty diapers. So this way worked for me. Couldn't bring myself to spend so much on a diaper genie.

ditto what mellyboo said!

I love ours! we have a diaper pail genie elite. The refills are a lil spendy. So sometimes we will just take a drawstring garbage bag and put that in there and works well:thumbup: just doesn't mask the smell as well as the refill bags lol.

I have an Angelcare one and love it. Think it was £20 with 3 cartridges. Cartridges are £12 for 3 I think. Only had to buy 1 refill so far. They cut off once they're full and you pull the cartridge back through. 1 cartridge lines the 3-4 times. I buy 300 nappy bags for like 50p and just started putting wet nappies in the normal bin.

Couldn't recommend it any more. Haven't once smelt a nappy in over 4 months. My mum always comments on how 'fresh' our house smells :haha:

I have a tt sangenic and I love it! Used it for every nappy since he's was born, it's emptied when full so about twice a week, no smell at all. The cartridges cost a fortune in the supermarkets but anazon sell them so much cheaper, £14 for 6.

Do not buy a diaper genie... it was okay at first when he was little and his diapers were tiny, but now it is difficult to fit his size 4 diapers in there, it fills way too fast, it still smells, oh and when you go to change the bag old wet hot poo that has been fermenting with millions of germs gets on your hands from the bag!! The cartridges are way too expensive, and the thing its self is expensive! you couldnt go wrong with just getting little single diaper bags and just throwing them in the big trash. worst waste of money other than a wipe warmer which my husband insisted on getting. useless!!!

I love mine too, I live in a flat so going to the bins is a mission to do all the time. I buy the refills on Amazon, plus bought it second hand, cost me a fiver and came with refills.

This is one of the things im so glad i bought! I live in a flat so dont have an outside bin i could easily dispose of nappies in. Yeah the cartridges are expensive and don't last too long but i always buy them if i see them on offer. Plus LO's poos smell sooo bad haha! Do you live in a house with an outside bin? If so then i would just put nappies in the outside bin, but if you live in a flat i would deffo get a nappy bin!
