Nappy disposal bins.....worth the money?

I really like ours...but mostly because we live in a second floor flat, so we can't just pop the nappies into the outside bin as we go along. I buy the cartridges usually in like asda's baby event or something (got 3 for £5 recently).

I think it depends on your home situation, I know many hate them but I really like ours and find it so useful. We live in a first floor flat so taking every dirty nappy straight to the outside bin would be really inconvenient and I found nappy bags weren't containing the smell now that she does smelly 'real person' poos rather than just milk ones! I stock up on the cartridges when they're on a really good deal (eg. Amazon black Friday or whoopsied at the end of Asda baby event)

I love ours and don't for a minute think it's a waste of money (or that expensive to be honest). We have 3 - one in each of their bedrooms by their changing tables and one by the changing table downstairs. I can't imagine putting nappies in normal bins, and also can't imagine going outside to the dustbin every time I changed a nappy.

I've got the Angelcare ones and I think they were £7 each, and then the refils are £10 for 3 on Amazon. Well worth the money in my book!

Poo shouldn't go in the bin anyway, it should be put down the toilet (solids). Then smell should be less of an issue. We use cloth now but when we used sposies with ruby we had one of these and it was definitely a waste of money.

YES! Total waste of money!

It's easier and cheaper to put em in nappy sacks.

Plus... Nappy sacks are portable :D

We have the Angelcare diaper bin. For the first 6 months we used a small pail emptied daily or every other day but the smell became too strong especially once she started eating solids. My husband still takes out poopy diapers when he's leaving for work because we prefer it out but for all else I don't smell a thing with the bin. The bag refills are an expense but we buy a 6 pack at a time for 36€ and that'll last at least 3 months so it's not that bad. Regular trash bags also cost money as well.. well, we tried it with regular trash bags to save money but big mistake. Her room started smelling. :/ Had to air the bin out a good day. Anyway, I find it convenient. It's simple to empty and set up again and I know we'll be even more glad to have it next month with two babies in diapers! :)

Worth every penny. It's not feasible for me to run to the compactor room after every dirty diaper and her diapers smell like... well, shit! Lol I can't have them piling up in a normal trash can every day or her nursery would smell putrid.

We have a diaper genie elite which contains all the smell, and it's my husband's job to empty it every time it's full, so that makes me a happy bunny! It makes my essentials list, that's for sure.

Love ours. One of the best non essential items I'd hate to be without.
We take our own trash to the dump, so only go once every 1-2 months. The diaper genie elite means no smell and the bags are perfect for storing in the garage until its time for another dump run. Over 2.5 years use and about to get some more use when #2 comes along.

I quite like mine. It's an angel care one and its so easy to empty etc!

Nah - but we have a bin raiding dog so we have a very small kitchen bin (with a slide lock on it) that's emptied on a regular basis so things don't get a chance to build up (especially with a husband who'll wait to clear out his desk etc until I've just emptied the bin and fill it right back up again). Overnight nappies get brought down on a morning and binned then.

I used my Sanegenic til the cartridge ran out after 3 weeks. It needed to be emptied every 3 days anyways. Now I use scented sacks that I just collect in a carrier bag n in the wheelie bin every morning. Elsies poop doesnt smell yet, but Smells should be ok over winter. Why don't u just empty ur older LO nappies into the toilet? That's what I used to do with my sons as soon as they turned solid :)

i have one and i think its brilliant. i got the tommee tippee sangenic one in mothercare on special with 6 cartridges. the cartridges last ages, and i only buy them when they are on half price.
its easy to change them and easy to empty the bin.
now my lo is doing bigger poops i empty that into the toilet then put the dirty nappy in the sangenic.
i think its a brilliant item. id hate putting nappies in the kitchen bin, and cant be doing with going to the outside bin every time i change a nappy.
the lid snaps shut so i dont think your older toddler would be able to stick his hand in, but toddlers are clever so he might try copying you!

oh and i use scented nappy sacks when not at home. i got a pack of them in lidl very cheap, cant remember how much, and they are great for keeping in the nappy bag.

I wouldn't bother! We used ours for a month or 2 and now it's just sat in LO's bedroom collecting dust but even if you did use it you'd save money by just buying cheap nappy bags and putting them in the bin x

I think they are a waste of money based on the cost of the refill cartridges especially when a newborn needs so many nappy changes each day, I felt like I was always buying new ones. In the end I just stopped using it and then switched to cloth nappies anyway

I used to think they were rubbish so never got one, the in-laws as a surprise gift got us the Angelcare one and I love it to bits! The refill cartridges are cheap and ours lasts on average a month before we need a refill.

The wee girl has 5-6 changes a day of which one is messy diaper, once it is pushed in you no longer smell anything. It has a crocodile style inlet so it clamps firmly shut after the diaper and I don't think a toddler can push it open again. Of course I haven't had one try yet lol.

I absolutely love mine, we use the angel care one and it really does work. There is no smell from it and its really easy to empty and wipes clean too. I have mine in my livingroom but we are considering getting another one for upstairs too.

I dont think the cartridges are that expensive its £15 for 3 of them and each one lasts about a month for us so £5 a month really isnt that bad.

The only issue I have with the bin is when LO has made a very messy nappy you can end up getting some on your hand when pushing it down into the bin but we got around this issue by putting a sandwich bag over our hand.

I think its unlikely that a toddler would be able to get into the bin or touch/get the nappies but I dont have a toddler yet and I know my friends toddler can get into everything so I would recommend keeping out of reach or in a cupboard that is toddler proof.

we use nappy sacks aswell to stop this. Just use the ASDA smartprice ones 35p for 300!
