So we are having another little boy! We have mostly decided on the name Nathan. Just a few little issues...

1. Our other son is named Anthony. We are a little worried that Nathan might sound too much like Anthony. Anthony and Nathan??

2. Some relatives call my son Ant. With that pattern, they will call Nathan "Nat." So Ant and Nat...sounds like I name my kids after bugs. (I wouldnt have thought of this, someone else brought it up to me). :dohh:

3. MIDDLE NAME TROUBLE!! My son Anthony's middle name is James, after my husbands grandfather (James Frederick). He was very close to his grandfather and wanted to use his name, so I agreed. His grandfather was alive at the time and passed away 3 years ago. (My son is 8). This time, I want to name him after my grandfather or grandmother who passed away. I was close to them both and I have particular reasons for wanting to use their name. For starters, my grandfather is actually my dads adopted father. When my dad was born, his bio dad signed his rights away and had nthing to do with him. When he was like 5, my grandmother got married to my grandfather, and he adopted my dad and aunt and took them in and treated them as if they were his own, even after they divorced. My dad is in touch with his bio dad now and we do Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter every year with them (my adopted grandfather passed away 14 years ago). I think of him as a strong man and amazing person, so I want to use him name...BUT...I know that bio grandpa will be offended and that whole side of the family will badger me. :growlmad: (Not that I care too much but I hate confrontation and stuff). Now for my grandmother, we were extremely close. I was her first grandchild and we had a special bond. I know there are no favorites, but...I was the favorite. :winkwink: lol.

So there is my middle name dilemma. My grandfather (Charles Edward Holmes) and my grandmother (Kathleen Theresa Brady) were both amazing people. However, my cousin is named after my grandfather already...he is Charles Edward II. My grandmother doesnt have a namesake or anyone named after her. Hubbie wants to name him Nathan Charles. I want Nathan Brady. (This is not to mention that my in-laws want me to name him either Nathan James or Nathan Frederick after hubbies grandfather. Cant do James again, and I mean, we already named a child after him...I want to name one after my side of the family...but of course I feel rude and stuff when I say no. His death was tragic and unexpected and, three years later, everyone is still healing and its been really rough. My SIL had her son in July and gave him the middle name Joseph after her bf's grandfather and was made to feel bad...I dont want that to happen and I dont want them to feel like I didnt love him).

UGH I'M TOO PREGNANT FOR THIS CRAP!! I swear I just wanna move across the country until this baby is born and birth certificate is filled out. This is a miracle IVF baby that took 4 1/2 years to conceive...I have had several severe medical issues with this pregnancy and I just want to enjoy it and stop worrying about peoples feelings but of course the hormones get to ya!!

So...if ur still reading...good job.

In conclusion lol...

1. Is Nathan too close to Anthony??
2. Is the Ant and Nat thing a bug deal :haha: (haha that was a typo but ill leave it lol)
3. Middle Name?? Nathan Charles??? Nathan Brady??? Should I kiss up to my in-laws and do Nathan Frederick? or Nathan James?? Any other suggestions based on my grandparents names???

Please Help Me. LOL

Lol I laughed hardest at the comment, "I'm too pregnant for this crap!"

First of all, I'm a sucker for family names (both of my little guys have family names) BUT...that being said...there are only two people who have to be happy with the name (you and OH.) Everyone one else will eventually get over it.

1) I don't think Nathan and Anthony are too close at all. I like that they kind of "go" together (both my guys start with "D.")

2) I actually think Ant and Nat is cute and funny. : )

3) I like any of those, but Nathan Brady is my favorite, and it sounds like it is also the most sentimental to you.

Suggestions: keep it a secret until baby is here lol, and then anyone would have to be a real jerk to make a negative comment. ; )

I know the name struggle is very real--you've got some great choices there. Best of luck, and congrats on your little miracle!!!!!! : )

thanks so much!! it really helped! and yes I am too pregnant for this crap! lol. I should be sitting back, eating brownies, and getting my feet rubbed lol. Not fighting over a middle name that is hardly used except when hes in trouble lol.

I think Anthony and Nathan go nicely together :) And Nat and Ant sound cute imo.

Love the sound of Nathan Brady. Screw your in laws making you feel guilty, you already named your first son with grandfathers name, it would be beyond silly to use it again. Soblessed has a good idea of keeping it a secret until LO is here, then they can't badger you about it while pregnant.

Totally agree with previous posters. Go for what has the most meaning to you. Nathan Brady sounds the best anyway.

Also, wouldnt Nathan be shortened to Nate? Ant and Nate are cute together.
