Hey ladies

Anyone heard of this treatment or tried it?

A clinic near to where i live is offering it.... natural IVF being no drugs and they follow your normal cycle and aspirate the single egg and fertilise it... or soft where they stimulate you enough to get 2-7 eggs?? Just wondered!

Ta :happydance:

Really? they can do that and get good results? wow :) no use to me but wow that could be good for alot of women :D

I have heard of it and looked into it. But, I figured if I was going to go through the process I was going to go full blown and increase my odds of it working. The chance of getting good quality embryo out of 1 egg is slim. For instance, I had 16 eggs, only 11 were mature, and only 9 fertilized. By day 5, I only had 3 good embryos left. So, there is strength in numbers and you will have a higher liklihood of getting good quality embryos with increased egg production.

I'm with vineyard. I had 11 mature eggs first cycle, 8 fertilised, and when it came to day 3, I only had 2 suitable quality embryos. Hedge your bets is what I say ... Although it might be a suitable treatment option for the 'younger' woman with high grade egg quality.

Must admit - i think i would happily hedge my bets to get a better chance - not to mention having 2 implanted. Obviously i'm just looking for an excuse not to jab myself

I've not heard of it before. is it cheaper than standard IVF? Do they tell you much about the chances or risks involved?

it is cheaper - by 1.5k so i think it works out at 1-1.5k per cycle and you can do it every cycle rather than at 3 month intervals since there are no drugs involved - i think it's only done with select clinics though?x

Hi there

I´ve not had a natural cycle of IVF, but have had what can be called the soft cycle, where they try to get less eggs, (hoping for better quality in my case), but each time they collected about 12 eggs, of which the majority fertilised, but when it came to ET dat I only had 2 to put back. After 3 IVF attempts, they realised it always followed the same pattern as above, no matter how they changed the drugs, etc & have discovered I have a poor egg quality (I´m 32 so still young)!!!! Now trying 4th attempt but with tablets 6 wks before the initial IVF treatment to try & improve my egg quality....so we´ll see!! Good luck

Love Jayne x

I'm weary of the no-meds IVF and here's why. Not every egg retrieved will be mature, and not every mature egg will fertilize, and not every fertilized egg will make it long enough to be transferred.

Here are my stats:
First cycle:
14 eggs retrieved.
12 were mature enough.
7 fertilized.
4 made it to blast and 3 arrested.
So 2 were transferred and 2 were frozen.

Second cycle:
25 eggs retrieved, all mature (miraculously).
15 fertilized.
9 made it to blast, 6 arrested.
2 were transferred and 7 were frozen.

(I've had one FET cycle with 2 of the frozen ones now.)

So out of 39 eggs, 37 were mature (extremely unusual for so many to be mature), 21 fertilized, and 11 made it to blast. That is less than 30%. And it was only so good for us because of our ages (I was 27, then turned 28 at the end of the first cycle, he was 25, turned 26 at the end of the first). The higher in age, the lower the number of eggs you usually get.

Most often 2 embryos are transferred, and the chances are typically about 33% of having a successful pregnancy with those 2, less of a chance with just one.

Could you go through the cycle and retrieval only to have that one egg not be mature, not fertilize, or not make it to blast? It's an awful lot to pin on one single egg.

Allow me to make a couple corrections. The cost of the cycle itself remains the same. You still have the same ultrasounds and the retrieval works the same. The cost savings is with the medications. The medications can cost between $1,500 and $6,000 depending on your doses. The actual cycle can be anywhere from $8,000 (which I've only seen as part of a package where you pay for three cycles, even if it works the first time) on up to $15,000 or more. This part won't change just because no drugs are used.

Also you don't always have to wait between cycles either. My first cycle was twins, yay. then lost them very soon, and was started on my next cycle within a week. How long of a wait there is, if there even is one, would depend on several factors, such as health, if there were complications before, what your doctor is comfortable with, etc..
