Hello
I am very new to all of this but I am at a loss for help.

I am 36 and have done IUI 6 times. I have never been pregnant before I started IUI. Well at least not that I know of. I got pregnant on my 3rd time without any drugs. I miscarried at 6 weeks. My Dr. then put me on Clomid 50mg followed by HCG trigger shot for try #4. Not pregnant. On try #5 my Dr. continued the Clomid and HCG trigger shot but then had me do Prometrium tab vaginally for 12 days after insemination. I am now on try #6. My Dr. increased my Clomid to 100mg and continued the HCG shot and Prometrium pill. I tested postive on HPT on 2/15/11 this was 13 days past IUI/Ovulation. Then had blood drawn on 2/16/11 at this blood draw my HCG was 102. I then had another blood draw on 2/21/11 and my HCG level dropped to 71. The Doctor's tech didn't realize that this was my 2nd blood test and said that all looked good. I brought it to her attention that this was my 2nd and the number dropped. She apologized and said oh that's too bad. I said does this mean for sure I am will miscarry and she said most likely.

What I need guidance with is does anybody know if HCG levels and fluctuate and still give birth to a healthy baby? Also, if this is a miscarriage what do I talk to my Dr. about. My Dr. is well known for his experience in Reproductive Med so I hope he is truly doing all he can. I just want to have as much info as possible so I can ask him all the right questions.

Thanks for any stories and guidance.

Thanks and good lucky with all of your attemtps!

i cant help you hun but didnt want to read and run, best of luck :hugs:

Hey Snide- HCG levels are supposed to double every 48 hours to indicate a healthy and sustainable pregnancy. What u have been having for the last 2 times is MMC or chemical pregnancy which is quite common in fertility treatments. I had a chemical pregnancy on my 3rd IUi where the doc listed 3 possible problems

1. Just pure bad luck
2. problem with egg quality (I am assuming there is no prob with the SA)
3. Problems with uterine quality.

I would say that since it has happened twice point 1 is unlikely.

The options u might discuss with ur doc is to investigate why the embryo is not growing after fertlization. IVF usually is a better treatment for diagnosing egg quality issues. You can also explore Laproscopy/Hysteroscopy to rule out endo or uterine problems.

This would be the first step .

You can PM me if u have any questions that I might be able to answer.

All the bestxx

Look is right, chemicals are common occurences when using fertility drugs. My RE said sometimes we can make a pregnancy but not a baby.

So in 6 IUIs you've been pregnant twice but never carried a baby to term? Can you elaborate on why you're doing IUI to begin with? How far apart were IUIs #3 and #6?

I've done 4 IUIs but never been pregnant. I know I just can't get pregnant! But it's hard to say with just two pregnancies whether you're having more trouble getting pregnant (as is often the case when you're doing IUIs) or if you may have a bigger issue causing the m/c.
