Hi Girls....need some advice.

Our little man is 2 weeks old today and up until a few days ago has been an absoilute dream !!

We have both taken to breastfeeding reallky well and love it.

DS is pretty quiet during the day....feeds sleeps poops etc.....at night he isnt too bad either....i usually feed around 11, 3, 5 and 7 am.

Our problem is between 7pm until around 10pm!! The little bugger just will not settle at all !!! He'll feed a short while then push me off....his nappies are clean ....he doesnt need winding......its been the same for the last 3 nights !!

I wondered could it be down to diet ??? or is it just what babies do ????

Any suggestions ??xxxx

My little girl is 18 days old and alot of the time she feeds 4a little while & then pushes me off. She gets really cranky too! Keep winding her n changing her n nothing seems to settle her either! Were having a few episodes like this each day.

I have no idea if it's normal so I can offerno advice but yr not alone! I've even wondered if my milk is spurting out too fast for her?

I hope yr little man settles for you soon. Xxx

Mine was the same - I don't know if either my milk was too fast, as sometimes I notice he comes off and I am spurting, in which case I let it spurt into a muslin cloth and put him back on once its settled?

However after weeks of thinking he really had no wind, we have found also that he actually needs winding really regularly throughout the feed and that has stopped his fussing. It just takes ages to get him to part with a burp :dohh: but then he goes back on.

Also thinking about it DS was a monkey at the similar time. We have called it the witching hour as I have noticed it on a few posts lol. Could he be over-tired? Dylan turns into Dylan the villain around that time in the evening and its sometimes when he's tired?

Your baby just wants to nurse. It's called cluster feeding. Your baby will fill his tummy, rest for a minute, and then want to eat again. My son did the same thing usually from about 6 pm to 10 pm. He is basically trying to tank up for a big sleep. My advise is to settle in on the sofa with a good move, snacks at the ready, and a big bottle of water. It's can be frustrating, but try to just enjoy it because it won't last. There are days I would give anything to have a nice long session on the sofa instead of chasing after my toddler. haha

I agree with what the others have said. But thought it could also be that he has a bit of (bottom) wind / colic. Isla was like that every night from about 2/3 weeks to 9 weeks. She would also draw up her legs and cry and cry loads, but wouldn't feed much. If they have trapped wind and it gives them pain they like to have short frequent feeds as it helps relieve the pain in their tummies. I got a tummy tub bath and it has helped her get rid of the wind and relieve her discomfort.

Yes as the others have said, its quite common for them to cluster feed at night, I used to have James on my boob from 6-2am every night around that age!

Its how they boast your supply for all the growing they are doing and getting ready for night. I know its hard work but actually its a good sign! I used to watch easy to watch things n TV (can never concentrate when I'm breastfeeding for some reason!) and settle down and snuggle up. Sigh, I miss those days now! x

my baby is like this she is 6 weeks old tomorrow and is now quite settled most other times but evenings and mornings from about 7am-9am and then 6pm-9pm she just seems to go crazy. She wants feeding but then pulls away, she falls asleep for 5 minutes then wakes up and wants feeding then repeats until she finally falls asleep at around 9pm.
I tend to sit down with either the tv box or the laptop on bbc iplayer or 4 on demand - I prop her up with her pillow so she can reach my nipple easily and just let her bob on and off as she wants. It also gives me a great excuse to hand the older childrens bedtimes (between 6 and 7pm) to my husband.

Thats what people I talk to call it! Dom seems to freak out as soon as the sun starts to go down lol. Nothing seems to help. We feed him, change him, burp him, cuddle him, give him a bath, talk to him, read to him...you name it - we've tried it. It seems to be common among some babies. It started for him at about 2 weeks and happens everyday without fail though some days are worse than others. Around 10pm he calms downs and has a big feed and settles for bed. The question I have is - when does it end? lol

my little boy used to custer feed like that from 6pm till 11pm he did that for about 3 weeks until my milk supply got better. as someone else said though - he slept well after a session and still does.

then he started cluster feeding when he woke up too for about 2hours.

he;s 12 weeks old this week and only just getting in to a routine now - but he has slept through the night now for about 6 weeks!!

sometimes it does feel like bf takes over your life but as i tell hubby i'm on maternity leave to be a full time mum to my son and therefore however long he wants to feed for - is however long he gets

Bingo - we settle at bed around 10 - lets hope its not forever :haha:

My LO did the same at that age. I vividly remember the same routine whilst watching Strictly Come Dancing - It Takes Two every night last year: sit down - feed - stand up - sway - sit down - feed - repeat until knackered!

I can't remember how long it lasted but I became a huge expert on all aspects of Strictly...

for us it stopped around 10 weeks...before Isla was a nightmare in the evenings. now she'll go to sleep without any fuss at 8pm every night.
