Hi everyone,

My husband and I have decided to try for a baby. This will be our first child, therefore, I have no idea what I am doing. We have been trying for about two or three months now, and nothing has been happening yet, but I am definitely not giving up.

I have a few questions, my last period was August 15. We have decided to try the Answer Ovulation Testers...that are daily. My periods are somewhat irregular, the last three months have been....41, 37, 31...I have been using the testers once a day, but haven't been using them at the same time. I have been getting all negatives. I don't know if I am doing it wrong, or I haven't ovulated yet...I just don't know what is going on. Has anyone used these before?

Also, is it true that if I am pregnant already, that the ovulation test would be negative? All the ovulation calendars on the internet and everything, tells me that I have already ovulated, but I have been using them every day.

If I could please get some advice, that would be really helpful!! Also, if anyone has a website that are using, that they know work, that would be great as well.

Baby Dust to All :) :) Thank You!!!

You should use the opks a few times a day around your ovulation time.. Your peak can be there one min and gone the next..
Good luck..

I used answer OPK's this cycle as well and I never could get a positive test until this cycle. I tested twice a day, the first time between 2-4 PM and the 2nd between 8-10 PM until I got my positive. I recommend not to keep testing after you get your positive because it can really confuse you! I kept testing and got a positive for 6 days in a row! I went from not being able to get positives to them not going away grr! Have you considered trying to chart your temp. as well? It really helps!

I would use the opk just around the time I am ovulating, but I have no clue on when I am ovulating, I just look at all these calendars online and such, and they same a time, and I take a test, and it says negative. So I have no idea what is going on!! :(

So I will definitely try testing twice 2-4 pm and 8-10 pm. Okay so I will stop using once I get a positive. When do you start testing, the day after your period ends or what? I tried doing my temp and everything, but it's so difficult to understand, maybe you could tell me a little more info, as to when I start charting, what's the normal temp, and if it goes higher what does that mean, or lower what does that mean? And what time of day do you take it? Thank you :) :)

 KitteyKat,

I know where you're coming from - I was like you when I first started. Definitely try testing twice a day, I used to miss mine by only testing once.
I usually test around 12 then around 7 and haven't missed an O since then!

I usually start testing on CD9 (I have 25/26 day cyles) and usually always ovulate between days 11 & 13, once it was CD15 but AF was late that month (31 days)

Can usually predict when AF will come by what day I ovulate!

Good luck - sending you babydust :dust:

You could probably fairly safely start testing at around Day 9. If you're worried about the cost of tests maybe go with 1 per day until you start to see the two lines and then up it to twice a day to make sure you don't miss the surge.

If you get a basal thermometer (2 decimal places) and chart your temps as well it's really helpful! I use Fertility Friend (click my signature to see what I'm talking about) and although I might not always completely believe it, it helps me keep on track.

Good luck!
