LO will soon need to be moved into his cot as he is rapidly outgrowing his basket.

I am getting into a bit of a flap about what we will need. We have ordered a mattress, protector and sheets and know he can't have a quilt until he's at least 1yr but what about cot bumpers, sleep positioners etc? I keep reading conflicting advice about both these items and don't want to waste money but at the same time don't want to put him at risk if it's better to have these items.

What has everyone got? I reckon we will need to move him within the next couple of weeks or so as he keeps hitting the sides of his basket with his arms.

Hi Hun

When we moved are little one to a cot, I used a cot bumper because my baby moved around alot and I didn't want her bumping into the sides of the cot, also it gives them a little bit of warmth and security. Mobile so they have something to look at in the cot, sleeping bag and mattress covers.
When she was little I also had a few teddies at the bottom of her cot.

If you need anymore advice just message me, hope that helpes hun its a big step from moses to cot, most babies love it coz they get a lot of space to explore good luck x

Does he sleep in a baby sleeping bag? I found that was quite good for helping transition from basket to cot as at least it stayed the same.

I have airwrap cot bumpers which are breathable and really good - none of the problems with traditionnal bumpers but still make cot cosier and stop arms getting stuck between bars and dummies falling out.

Good luck! As far as I know most babies barely notice the change and a lot sleep better (sadly Sam was the exception!!)

Thanks for the replies! I have seen the airflow cot bumpers so might get one of those.

LO has swaddle me things and then blankets. I do have a couple of sleeping bags but even the 0-6 months one seems a bit big but I plan on using it once he's in the cot.

Does anyone have any experience with the sleep positioners? A girl at my NCT class is using one for her LO who is a little younger than Ethan. I went on Amazon to have a look but there were a few bad reviews saying that their LO's wriggled out of them and ended up face down and that the HV didn't recommend them. But I'm also a little worried about him wriggling around.

We don't use bumpers. We had a sleep positioner someone lent us that we used in the Moses but he outgrew it very quickly. When he went to hospital for an op we then picked up a tip from what they do for babies in the big hospital cots that we now do, you roll up a hand towel and place it on the bed in a U shape then place a pillow case over the top. It works as a positioner but is lot cheaper, moveable as they grow and not so restrictive.

I put my LO in her cot for the first time on friday.. she sleeps brilliantly in it! we just have a fitted sheet then place her feet to foot and tuck her in with a fleece blanket!

My Lil' Man went to his cot at 9 weeks old as he grew too tall for moses. We used a bumper (one that goes all round except at bottom), put him in a sleeping bag and put him in. Took him 5 nights to get used to it, but he LOVES it now. Just get sheets, waterproof mats for underneath, blankets or sleeping bags and a bumper and you're good to go :)

Thanks for the tip! Will use this idea if LO seems to need one.

I'm hoping he'll take to the cot easily as he's just started sleeping through and has been sleeping really well lately in his basket. How did everyone cope the first few nights of their LO being in a different room? Our nursery is the room right next door to ours so really close but we have two cats so although we can keep our door open (and the cats will be SOOOO happy to be finally allowed back on our bed), we will need to keep the nursery door shut. We do have an angelcare monitor we intend to use that is still in the box!!

The Angelcare monitor definetely gave me peace of mind when I couldn't see my LO but knew he was still breathing and ok. I'd also recommend a cot wrap, they cover the sides and make the cot a bit more like a moses basket which is much cosier, they are mesh like the airwrap but made of cotton so really soft - https://www.safedreams.co.uk. HTH x

Emily moved into her cot on Sunday- lots of people told me they let their LO's sleep in the moses basket, in the cot for a few days but we went straight to cot mattress- took her a little longer to settle on the first night but she's loving it now, she has a mobile at the end of it which she watches as she settles for the night.

I just have a fitted sheet on the mattress & Emily zipped into a sleeping bag (she's diddy but the 0-6 ones are fine). She does wiggle a bit but she seems settled in it, she's been on her side a couple of times but always rolls back etc in her sleep.

As long as there's no loose blankets that could cover babies face etc I wouldn't bother with a sleep positioner.

I've an angelcare sound/movement monitor too (£30 secondhand) and this is really handy too xx
