I'm going to be induced in 6 days for poor obstetric history and a big baby. Please tell me your positive stories to calm me down ! Thanks !

i was induced. i don't know if my story is a positive one, but it definitely isn't a scary one or anything :)

i went in to hospital at 6 am sunday morning. was given iv (needed antibiotics throughout labor for being gbs+). induction with pitocin started at 7-730 am.

went until about 4 pm with mild contractions and was doing ok. at 4 pm doctor came and broke my waters. OH MAN this is when it started. i got an epidural around 8 pm i believe - i was like 8 centimeters so i was cutting it close!

then at 931 pm my little man was born (only around 20 mins of pushing).

it was painful, and i do believe that if i hadn't been induced i may have been able to handle labor a little bit better. but having it all said and done, i don't regret any of it...i'm even glad i got my epi so late in the game because i didn't have to worry about it slowing my labor any.

good luck to you :)

I was induced with DD. I went in at 5PM on Tuesday, got the cervadil and didn't need any pitocin because it sent me into full blown labor. Got an epi, labored with epi for a few hours, which was great. Didn't have any pain. Hit transition, epi stopped working on one side, Dr. fixed it. All was well. Pushed for 15 minutes.. maybe? It wasn't long, and not as hard as I expected. She was born at 4:56 am the next morning.

I've had two induced labours and one natural. First was induced as baby was a week overdue. Had the cerdavil at 3pm Thursday, was very crampy overnight. They broke my water and started Pitocin at 9am the next morning. Straight into strong contractions! Baby was born at 11.37, after only a few good pushes.
Number 3 was also induced due to decreased fetal movement. They broke my water and let me go like that for a couple of hours, no labour. Pitocin started and contractions came on strong. Once contractions got to one after the other with only 30 seconds break in between I was sure I was near the end but only 3cm dilated. I opted for the epi and around 6 hours later baby was born, completely pain free. Would much prefer natural as I found it less painful, but that's what epis are for!

I've had two induced labors, too. Both were positive! For the first one I wasn't even favorable and had an easy vaginal delivery, though it took 24 hours. The second time I was induced at 4cm by choice it only took 6 hours, I was comfortable and I pushed just once to have him. It was frankly a pretty awesome experience! Not all inductions are bad :)

I was just induced six days ago at 38 wks cuz my little lady was measuring small and my uterus hadn't grown since 30 wks. They started out by putting a foly bulb cayheder in and sent me home for 12 he's...which wasn't all that bad and I managed to sleep on and off. Once back at the hospital they hooked me up to oitocin...I wasn't dialating quick though , stayed at 4 cm for six he's..but wasn't to bad...relaxed and watched TV. Finally they broke mY water and I went from 4 to 10 cm in an hr....so fast. I got an epidural but it didn't work so ended up having her naturally....in just 3 pushes she was out.....in hindsight it was my quickest and easiest labour and she was bigger than they thought... Almost six lbs!! I know its scary but you will be fine....think if it as the very last thing u have to do before you get to hold your sweet baby!! Xx

I was induced for "social reasons" (husbands works away and had limited time off).

I was given the cervadil tape on Tuesday afternoon (two weeks ago) at 5pm, sent to the hospital for overnight observation. The next morning it was hoped that I would have my waters broken, but I was still only 1cm dialated, so had to have pitocin gel put in at 9am.

By 2pm I was will only 2-3cm dialated, but it was enough to break my waters, started having contractions at that point.

By 10pm Wednesday I was finally 4-5cm dialated, but because it was taking so long the decision was made to start the syntocin, contractions were getting quite regular at this point, I could handle the actual contractions but my cervix was incredibly sensitive and I asked for at this point. One of the nurses also convinced me that an epidural (the pethadine stopped th epidural insertion hurting) would be more effective for the pain, and since I was a hospital this only cost us '$200, WELL worth the cost!!! About 15 mins after the pethadine the vomiting started, I should have had maxalon immediately before the pethadine, but didn't, which is probably a good thing looking back now, because I had limited success with maxalon previously.

I ended up getting ondanstetron at about 1am in the morning which immediately stopped the vomiting.

When I was checked at 2am I was finally 8cm dialated and just had a small amount of cervix left in the way, I managed to get onto all fours for an hour even with the epidural... This meant that by 7 am when the obstetrician arrived I was ready to push. Our beautiful little girl was born at 7.53am on the Thursday morning. Labour was pretty painless after the epidural and so even slept on and off during the early hours of the morning... I ended up with a small episiotomy, and did lose some blood, but not severe enough to need a transfusion. All in all it wasn't a bad labour, but I also played it by ear, and found tha I hated the sensation of being on gas, so lost that option for pain relief fairly early
on.

Anyway, wish you the best, I am sure that things will work out fine. The most important outcome is that both you and your baby are healthy and safe, so even if you do need a c-sec (which I totally agree would suck) at least you will have a beautiful little baby in your arms at the end of it all. At that point nothing else seems to matter. Xx

(My baby was 8lb birthweight with a 36.5cm head..)

I had planned on waiting until after 42 weeks to discuss doing an induction, but Evie's heartrate was off at my 41 week checkup, so we made the decision to go ahead with an induction. I started with Cervadil instead of Pitocin because my body was showing zero interest in going into labor on it's own. The Cervadil was actually enough to kick-start labor for me, and caused some horrible contractions that were coming back to back. The OB on duty that night was an angel, and let me get the epidural at only 3 CM so I could sleep that night. By the time they removed the Cervidil 12 hours later I was 5 CM and progressing on my own. The same OB decided to leave me be for a few hours since I had the perfect epidural (no pain, could still move my lower body, it was heaven!). About 5 hours later I was at 8 CM, and all of us were ready to get to the end at that point, so they broke my water and started a low dose of Pitocin. Five hours after that I had my beautiful daughter in my arms without any complications and a normal vaginal birth (except for a tear... I apparently pushed too well even with the epidural).

After the epidural everything was wonderful, and I loved my birth experience! I hope you have a wonderful birth and healthy baby as well. :hugs:

I had to be induced for pre-e. Not bad at all! Took 12 hours from when they started Pitocin. No issues whatsoever.

Don't stress!

Thank you soo much ladies ... I'm going to stop stressing and just go with the flow ! X

I was induced at 38 weeks with my 2nd because my water broke. Pitocin started at 9:00am, daughter born at 10:37am. 2 pushes no pain meds. She was 8lbs 3oz.

Good luck!!
