Jayden is bottle fed and he has rusk for breakfast and a jar for dinner + tea. he has bottles in between them too. now of a day he is ok and naps for 20 mins twice. but now my HV has referred me to a nutritionist because Jayden is 'over weight' and she said it's my fault because i give him his milk bottles of a night and i shouldn't be? she said otherwise he would be sleeping through and being more settled. is this my fault? how do i wean him off his milk at night? any advice would be hugely appreciated xxx

Tell her to f*ck herself.

Have you tried more food during the day? How old is he in months? xxx

What a b*tch! I was only able to wean Grace off her night bottles by putting her in her own room because she slept better and so when she woke I just put her dummy in and she'd go back to sleep. Not really sure what to suggest though hun x

i wish Jayden would sleep in his own cot never mind own room! i feel like such a failure!, it's my fault he won't sleep through, my fault he won't sleep in his own cot. i wish he would take a dummy, he refuses point blank to have one x

bobbie is still gettin up therw the night i have tryed every think shes got a lot better now she only wakes up once a night now it ust 2b 3/4times a night x x x

How many oz a day is he having? It's probably worth introducing lunch now as well, but even now I'll give Sam milk whenever he wants it! J not sleeping through is nothing to do with you as a mum!

Until they're 8 months and on 3 meals a day they should still be having at least 20oz a day if possible. If he's having a lot more than that you could try offering him water at night instead, but I wouldn't worry about it if he still wants milk x

At 7 months he could easily be having 3 meals a day... As for night feeding, at 7 months it isn't necessary, but some babies do wake when they are teething etc.

Dont feel bad, your not a failure...

I make 6oz bottles for him. he has his 3 meals a day an eats the whole jar. i try giving him water through the night but he won't have it. i have started giving him a rusk when he gets hungry instead of another bottle..is that the wrong thing to do? he still has milk bottles through the day though. :hugs:xx

How many bottles does he have a day? It's fine to give him snacks when he gets hungry - if he wanted milk instead of food he wouldn't eat it (as long as he's still having the minimum amount of milk) x

Will he take something other than a rusk, as they can be sugary. Maybe porridge or toast?

Lynn - at the minute he's having 3 bottles during the day and 2 or 3 of a night.

Jen - I'm giving him sugar free ones. I'm to scared to give him toast just yet, he's got some porridge so i will try that tomorrow

Thanks xxxxxx

omg cant believe she said that to you, i would just try to give him a little more food, to try and get him off his bottle at night, u know what HV are like they make nothing out of nothing

That doesn't sound like too much - if she wants you to cut out all the night bottles he'd only be having 18oz a day! Do you give him water or juice after meals? Maybe try giving him another bottle during the day so he might not be so hungry at night, as he shouldn't really need to feed 3 times - but I think she's taking it a bit far getting you referred to a nutritionist There's nothing really wrong with it, just makes things harder for you.

If you want to try other finger foods without worrying about choking try the organix carrot sticks - make sure you get the 7 month ones, not 12 as they have added salt. I think the sugar free rusks are still sweetened with something? Toast is good too though...if you put a bit of unsalted butter on it it goes mushy! x

I give him flavored water in a sippy cup of a day because he refuses point blank to drink plain water and won't even have his water of a night. going to try cutting down his milk tonight and making sure he has no more than 2 bottles, 1 if i'm lucky lol

I'l try giving him toast for breakfast, just make sure Ian's there 'just incase' lol, Jaydens got a habbit of getting his mouthful and then still trying to get more in  xx

How soon does J go to bed after his tea? My baby gets sleepy quite early so sometimes doesn't even get milk after his meal but if Jayden stays up a while longer you could think about adding in supper (eg weetabix) then he would be full all night and not wake up for milk. You could make up weetabix with 2 or 3 oz milk so that is a saving of 9 oz compared to him getting two bottles over night.

Hey hun,
f**k the health visitor, your doing great. Just a suggestion but why don't you try dropping the rusk at breakfast and giving him porridge or something, then maybe his normal for lunch and dinner with his normal bottles. J is not overweight and you are a fantastic mummy xx
