I have opted for a VBAC, but now that the time is closing in on me I'm becoming increasingly nervous. On Thursday I signed a paper agreeing that I would like to try a VBAC and it listed all of the possibilities that could happen during one, including uterine rupture and mother and fetal death. Since reading that it's put me on the edge... :nope:

It will only have been 2 years since my c-section when we attempt it and I'm wondering if that's now too soon... My previous Doctor said 12 months, but I've read the risks are still high if attempted between 12-24 months.

It'll be okay, Krysty. :) The chance of uterine rupture is so, so slim and if anything does occur, they'll know right away. I'm so jealous. Colorado hospitals are so much more VBAC friendly than Florida ones. And you know you can do it! You did it once, you can do it again. :D

I hope so! Reading and signing that paper freaked me out though, and Google didn't help. :( I guess I should have asked my Doctor more questions about it..

Are you still opting for a VBAC? Florida hospitals do seem to be all about c-sections! My older sisters weren't even allowed to labor for more than 5 hours before they forced them to have c-sections. :nope:

Never Google, haha! Florida hospitals are a pain in the ass. I have to drive an hour for appointments/delivery. Yes, I'm so hoping I get to. I have a 3 hour consult tomorrow. They get to measure my pelvis.

That is a pain! I just switched Doctor's and am now only 5 minutes from the hospital I am going to deliver at, compared to the hour and a half drive I was from the other one, haha.

Is that why you couldn't deliver Tori naturally? That's crazy! How common is that?

Partly. She got a little stuck and her heart rate dropped. They ruled it as insufficient pelvic space resulting in fetal distress. They need to see if my pelvis is large enough to pass a child.

Oh, well I hope you're able to! :hugs:

I can't believe you're already 17 weeks!

I had a successful vbac in May. Yes there are risks with vbac but there just as many risks with a c section.... Or a first time vaginal delivery for that matter. Uterine rupture can happen in a first time birth too but it's very very rare. Yes it's more likely in a vbac but still very rare... Like 0.8% I believe. Thing to do is avoid being induced as the drugs mean the risks do increase. Good luck. Do what feels right. For me vbac was very important and felt like the only option. Luckily I'm in England and they are very pro vbac. There was no question about me having a vbac. In fact a repeat section would have involved more discussion and paperwork.

Uterine rupture can happen in ANY birth. Maternal death can happen in any birth, and fetal death can happen in any birth. The risk for a VBAC are smaller than the risks with a csection...

However, how your feeling is completely normal regardless of your birth choice.

You also only have a 1% chance of having a rupture out of that, only 6% of people that rupture have a fatal rupture (Mom or baby).. S you have a 99% chance of not rupturing and I belve they say 50-85% of getting your vbac.

Please switch doctors if they are giving you that. Its IMPOSSIBLE for a doctor to tell the space of your pelvis. As when your in labor your pelvis structure moves. The only time it doesn't is if you've been in an accident and damaged your pelvic causing it to fuss together. CPD is actualy EXTREAMLY rare. Also the babies plates on the heads move to fit through your pelvic structure. SO again there is no medical way to tell how much space you have unless your in labor, even than it still hard.

Also being on your back when pushing reduces your pelvic opening by 30%.

There is no other doctor to switch to, that's the issue. :nope:
This is the only VBAC doctor within 75 miles. I have to drive an hour as is. :(

That makes it tough... Have you thought about hiring a doula? and maybe staying home until your sure your like almost ready to push? I know that's tough too than just show up to whatever doctor is there...

Either way you can still get it even with a vbac doctor who is not being 100% truthful. Just know what you can decline and your rights :) you got this!
