What do people think of this name?

It's pronounced neh-vay-ah

There are numerous spelling.

Nivea (like the cream, not keen obviously!, original Egyptian spelling. )
Nevaya
Nevea
Navea

I've heard that it's not a good name in America. I'd be interested to hear UK thoughts too please.

Thank you. Xx

All I can think is that it is heaven spelt backwards. To be brutally honest, it seems quite tacky.

That's what worries me, but I love the soft sound of the name. Names are so hard. Thank you.

It has a really bad rep where I am (London). It's not to my taste at all x

I pressed send too early. It truly doesn't matter about the rep if you love it.

Totally honest - I can't stand it. I find it tacky and a fad name.

I'd never heard of it until I started looking for names. But yes I have heard it could be thought of this way. Such a shame as its so pretty.

Thank you.

Have you thought about Nyah? It's similar x

I wouldn't use it personally. I only know of one person that has used the name and she pronounces it like Eva with an N. X

I've never heard of it, why has it got a tacky reputation?

It sounds pretty but I think it's one of those awkward names you'd be forever having to tell people how to spell and pronounce which I personally try to avoid x

Thank you everyone. I still haven't made a decision but you've definitely helped.

Honestly I really don't like it, it does seem tacky to me (the whole Heaven spelt backwards thing, it just seems gimicky I guess). I don't really like the pronunciation either, it sounds quite clunky. But I don't think it is that popular in the UK, not like it is in he US anyway, so I think you probably wouldn't come across so many negative responses to it like you would if you were in the US.

I'm in the US and personally never heard of anybody with this name before. I've never heard it with such negative feedback until I came on this website.

It's my #1 name at the moment; and OH and I LOVE it.
We'd spell it Neveyah - so that it's easier to spell/pronounce

I think it's a very pretty name, personally. I've only known a handful of Nevaeh's all under the age of 5. I don't find it to be a very popular name, in my opinion (i'm in the US and I work with children). It is soft and feminine. My son's name is one that is now "hated" and criticized on baby name sites. It wasn't 7 years ago when I picked it (was not at all popular at the time), and it's not hated in "real life" - but on name forums ppl always bash it, just like they bash the name Nevaeh. I think some ppl just aren't fans of names that are modern and trendy. To each their own! I hate lots of names too, and would never use like 75% of the names I hear/see everyday. At the end of the day, just name your baby something you love... there's no way to please everyone.

I love the look of this name (I actually have met to Nevaehs in the last 3 years), and I really do want to like it in every day use, but I can't. I don't like that it's Heaven spelled backwards. I feel like it would be tacky to name a child Heaven (kind of strippery to me), so does spelling it backwards make that big of a difference?

That said, when I'm looking at pictures in particular of a darling infant I know with this name, am I thinking of strippers? Of course not. It really just depends what you like and how you (and partner) feel about the name. No matter what you choose, someone is not going to like it. IMO better to go with what you love than to settle and have name regret.

Thank you all so much.

I think I'd go with 'Nevaya' as that is how I'd like it pronounced. Not keen on the heaven backwards spelling just as it is a bit trendy and this spelling would hopefully cause less confusion.

I like to go with names that are not 'usual' but also not fashionable so there are not three other children in her class at school with the same name. I just worry that she might hate it if it becomes too gimmicky. I guess it's always a risk unless you choose a more safe name. I also love the name Hannah so you never know. lol.

To me, it sceams chavs, white trailer trash, drugs, poverty, crime, tackiness, regardless of how you spell it. But if you like it, by all means go for it.

I used to love Niamh so loved Nevaeh at first, thinking it was pronounced neeva. Admittedly the reputation puts me off and not sure of the (correct) nuh-vey-a pronunciation, but if you love it then go for it! I love Nyla and Nala, which are kind of similar, or plain Niamh?

Do you like Niamh (Neeve) as PP suggested? I think that's really pretty too. Maybe Natalie or Natalia? At one point I had Avaya on my baby name list (I made it up) - which rhymes with Nevaya. Perhaps you like that bc it sounds so similar yet doesn't have the same gimmicky-ness?
