Hi everyone,

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and never have felt kicks above my belly button. It's always down below near the bikini line, does this mean I am feeling the baby's feet kicking me or could it be that he is the right way around and that it is his head that I am feeling. I'm a little confused and my m/w says she 'can't feel' what position he's in!! Useless

Thanks so much - I'm praying for a water birth and if he's breech this won't happen.:nope:

I thought this for the past few weeks but it turns out he is head down and seems to like to punch more than kick.

Although it's not brilliant that your midwife doesn't know lol

You can spend time on your hand and knees as that can help get baby into the right position.

Do you have a doppler? If you hear the heartbeat below the belly button baby is most likely head down.
Where do you feel hiccups? Same thing, if you feel them below the belly button, baby is probably head down.

Also, my baby is head down, but her butt is in my ribs and her feet are on the other side around the height of my belly button.. I can also feel movement down low a lot, which are her elbows pressing out most of the time I think.
And some smaller movements which are probably her hands.

Best thing to do is spend as much time as possible on all fours.. This will help get him to move so hes not back to back (if he is) and get him to move round so hes not breech.

Im due tomoz and baby is engaged etc and i only really feel kicks about belly button height and often get her bum sticking out!!

Xx

My baby is frank breech, and I can never feel kicks low down. His bum is on top of my cervix, his head up under my ribs, and his knees in front of his chest - I don't get any low kicks. The spinning babies website is great for tips and suggestions on how to encourage your baby into the optimum position :)

could be his transverse like mine, dont worry u still have plenty of time for him to move xx

Thanks girls - I have never felt hiccups

I am really worried the thought of a c section petrifies me and my m/w is totally useless. I can see a round bump under my breasts/right by rib cage when I sit up, but again I'm not sure if that's his head or his bum sticking out.

At my last appt m/w heard the heart beat above and below belly button but said it was because it picks up echoes????? and couldn't pin point it exactly.

I also was wondering at what point they engage, so how long have I got before the little man decides and settles into his 'final position'? I've been suffering from very sore inner thighs - don't know what this/if this has to do with anything though.

Thanks for all your help x

They can still move whilst heads engaged or even in labour..
My sisters little one was back to back and breech but moved round in labour.. And yeah it did make labour last alot longer waiting for him to shuffle round so best thing to do is try get him to move now..

Xxx

I've never felt hiccups with this one either :) How far along are you now? You don't necessarily have to have a C-Section either hun x

I'm 34 weeks hun. I was told that if you are breech you will need to have a c section. I would rather deliver naturally breech, but don't want to put him in any danger.

I'm dying for a water birth and if the baby is breech they will not let you give birth in the pool - you have to be 'perfect' throughout the pregnancy and no complications. I've tried to negotiate this for the pool and they are not budging. :growlmad:

There are tons of ways to try and turn your baby.
Go to www.spinningbabies.com and look for the breech inversion/tilt.
You can also try a chiropractor.
And of course, being on all fours A LOT, walking A LOT, having a right posture (sitting up straight).
Some babies turn last minute.

When my little one has hiccups it feels like kicks really low down but it's too rhythmical to actually be kicks IYKWIM? if i hadn't asked on here i might not have known it was hiccups lol

My oldest was breech, and I had him by C-Section. This one is breech at the moment too. I am digging my heels in for a homebirth though, much to their horror! :haha:

Just read somewhere that sleeping on your left side can help with this. Sleeping on the left is already better for heartburn reduction and puts less pressure on your sciatic nerve

At 26-30 weeks my little man was head down

Im sure he has turnt now though & is breech. I have a MW appointment on Tues so be intresting to see what she says hope he isnt breech I dont want another c-section

I feel movements below my tummy button or see things sticking out in line with my tummy button area but never above. This little man is also alot bigger than the normal baby at 32 weeks so i would have thought that even if he was head dowh movements would be alot higher up past the belly button area.......

hi again everyone,

i've been feeling so stressed and panicky about the thought of having a c- section. I've been doing some research online and i will feel so robbed if i have to have it.

As far as i understand it, would i be pre-booked in for the c-section if he hasn't turned, so would this mean that i wouldn't go through labour or feel any contractions? Would the section be booked for my due date?

Also, it only takes about an hour and you don't feel ANYTHING!! is this really right? i wanted to experience labour and have my little angel come into the world the natural way, i don't want him cut and pulled out, i feel so upset at that thought.

Also, the recovery period seems to be long - no driving for 6 weeks and i will struggle to pick him up? it says that the milk comes later as your body hasn't gone through the motion of giving birth and I really would love to get onto a smooth start with breastfeeling.

Sorry for the moan - can any ladies who've had c sections please clarify the above points about whether they are correct or give me any words of wisdom or help.

I'm so scared

Has nobody mentioned the possibilty of an ECV if he is indeed breech?
External cephalic version, its where they manually turn baby round from outside. I had it done at 37 weeks with my first baby and went on to go overdue and had her naturally.

I think you should ask to see a different midwife, you really need to determine if he acutally is breech before getting yourself in a panic.

My baby was transverse at 34 weeks and I did this:
https://spinningbabies.blogspot.com/2007/02/how-to-do-inversion.html

plus sitting on all four 20 mins a day when possible.

At the 36 weeks check-up she was in the right position for birth. I delivered vaginally.
Good luck

my baby is head down. I never feel anything above my belly button really. I always feel the hiccups really low, and most of the kicks are to the side about even with my belly button. I was just at the doctor a few days ago, and he's still head down (my doctor can tell by feeling on my belly. And being that he's been delivering babies for 20+ years, I think I believe him)

my friend is about 35 weeks at the moment and she was saying the same thing, she just foudn out bump is breech, not meaning to scare you or disappoint you i just thought it was relevant as she has only just been taking to me about it recently..:-) xx
