Hi! I've been lingering around this site for a few days now and I decided to finally post my story and questions.

Well, I thought I already ovulated this month, (so says the app I have on my phone) turns out after joining a few fertility sites and filling out information about my cycle, I don't ovulate until the 13th! This is our first month actually trying to conceive. If it doesn't work out this month then I'll probably invest in some ovulation test.

Last year I was on the pill and I stopped taking that around 9/10. From then to about 12/10 my cycles were about 30 days, but they've changed from 1/11 -3/11 to 37 days! I've never had a cycle that long before! Just wondering if anyone else has a long cycle like that or if it's even normal?

One more question, lol... Since we're finally trying to conceive should I be taking prenatal vitamins now? Thanks for reading!

Yes---definitely start taking prenatals right away. And I too have had long cycles before. Mine vary normally between 28 days and 35 days. Just keep charting each month so you can keep track of what is normal for you. Good luck!

Thanks :) I was going to make a trip to the store for some ovulation kits to see if I'm really ovulating this late or what... and I'll pick up some prenatals too! I'm just so excited to finally start ttc, we've waited 3 years for the time to be right!

Fertility calendars and such may not always be accurate so I wouldn't rely on them 100% to tell you when you're oving, especially if your cycle is varying each month or every few months. I think the best ways to help pinpoint ovulation are using ov tests to tell you when ov is about to occur, and charting your BBT to confirm that ov actually occurred. Checking your CM throughout your cycle can also be helpful.

Taking prenatal vitamins while TTC is a good idea. It's important to ensure you're getting the proper amount of folic acid even before you get pregnant.

Good luck!!

That's what I was thinking too! Some of the calendars I'm looking at are different and before I even entered my info on any of the fertility sites I thought for sure I'd already ovulated this month because of cm I had last week. Guess I'll find out after I take the ovulation test!

Hi Redstar,

I am ttc 1 as well. Its defo confusing. I've been chartign by bbt for a couple of months but am waiting for a new thermometer as my other one isn't a proper bbt one.

I'm also gonna give the OPK sticks a go this month.

I have long cycles sometimes too - verying between 28 and 34 days - so your not on your own!!

I am taking prenatal vits - I think they will help with your health as well as your baby to be's.

good luck XX

FYI - You can get OPKs online at amazon.com for crazy cheap.....

As the others said, if you chart your BBT, that's a great way to estimate your actual ovulation date without spending any money on OPKs (though I like to use them as backup confirmation that is has occurred). You can get a BBT thermometer on Amazon.com for about $10 as well. I also bought Taking Charge Of Your Fertility to learn about my cycle, body, and how to accurately chart my BBT.

good luck in your journey!

I was wondering if I should start charting BBT. I'll have to start next cycle though, still reading about it and I need to order some stuff. And yeah.... haha I went to the store earlier and to my surprise the kits are kind of pricey, plus the hubby didn't want to spend money on help yet since we just started trying. Thanks for the tip and Info ladies!!

Oh yeah, the OPKs you buy in stores are really expensive! I buy cheapies from ebay for just a few dollars.

Now I'm really confused! I really thought I ovulated on the 7th bc of the ewcm I was having a couple days before that. Now i'm experiencing cramps and having to pee A LOT, lol. Just to be on the safe side we did BD pretty much everyday since the 5th lol... I know, TMI! Guess i'll just have to stick it out until the end of the month to test and continue ... doing the BD.. haha. 8)
