Good afternoon. Turning to you ladies because not sure where else to go. Husband and I have been TTC for 2 years. Just started with bloodwork last month and FSH was a bit high. Attempted an HSG this past week and the Dr couldn't even get the cath in. Says I have severe cervical stenosis. (and HOLY PAINFUL!!!) Have an appt w/her on Monday to discuss a procedure to have things opened up but I have a few concerns.

1. All over the internet it says the HSG should be done after your period. Mine was done within approx 3 hours of my period starting. Literally. Could this lead to a false diagnosis? not sure if the cervix opening changes throughout the cycle. (Is a new, young dr so want to be sure)

2. Anyone have this and have the procedure to open it? What is that like? Any success after treatment?

I am pretty shocked by the diagnosis, was hoping this would just be a test to check off the list. Sad and unsure what to expect.

Didnt want to read and run!

I had one done but Im sure it shouldnt be done while on your period?!
Maybe something you should mention to your Doc? That might have been partly why they had a struggle?

I was told to get HSG right after AF has ended, they won't do it if I was still spotting.
Also they like to do it early on so that it won't affect the egg.

Did you relax the muscles on that area?

I would double check this, i remember reading somewhere that if period blood can get out you can't have this condition? I might be thinking of something else but its a least worth googling it a bit more? Dr's can get things wrong!

definitely didn't relax which probably didn't help. I have an appt to have 'cervical dilation' on friday and another attempt at the HSG next week. I did some more research and it says heavy periods can be a sign and mine are crazy 8/9 days with 3 days of pretty painful cramps.

Hi

I've just been diagnosed with this too. i just wanted to know how your dilation went?
any feedback would be great :)

Would love to hear how things progressed... just diagnosed with cervical stenosis this morning!

Hi Ladies

I had my cervical stenosis fixed in July 2011, I got pregnant in November 2011 and now im pregnant again.

I had a lap, dye and dilation done.
basically my surgeon first dilated my cervix and removed the scar tissue, then did a lap to check my reproductive organs and actually watched the dye go through my tubes.

luckily I had no issues and was back TTC the following cycle.

Also I used choose and book and selected a bmi hospital so i had a brilliant private surgeon and only waited 10 weeks instead of 18 weeks with my local nhs hospital

Good Luck
xxx

Thanks for the update, Mrs Evans, I had a lap done on Friday under general anaesthetic and they couldn't complete the hysteroscopy and dye as they have said i have cervical stenosis. Not at lot of info out there on this condition so its good news to hear you have had success since...gives me hope! :)

Don't worry too much about it. The dilation is a simple procedure. As long as that's your only issue pregnancy should be achieved soon enough
