Hello! I guess I belong here now. We've been trying for our second for over a year now. I had a miscarriage at the beginning of Oct 2011 and haven't conceived again since. I'm guess I'm just wondering about the procedure involved in going to a fertility clinic. My OB has already offered to refer us to one nearby but I have a few questions and was wondering if anyone has any answers.
At the moment, hubby and I aren't sure we want any sort of fertility treatments (clomid, iui, ivf) but I'm more interested in just getting tested for everything to see if there is something wrong/can be easily fixed. Any idea what is covered under OHIP or my hubby's insurance from work?
I know I'm a bit overweight. Will that make any difference in what they will do or recommend. (I know I need to lose the weight and am trying to work on it).

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm just feeling so lost :(

Hey! and welcome!

I'm in Ontario as well. I go to a fertility clinic in the GTA and I can tell you that the testing (saline sonogram, HSG and lap/dye were all covered under OHIP) I was on clomid for 2 cycyles were were not covered under my insurance (sunlife or my dh's). Testing wise you are all covered through OHIP treatment and meds depends solely on your insurance. My clinic gave me a list of all the meds with the DIN numbers (drug identification number) that I would call up my insurance company and provide them the DIN # and they would tell me what was covered and how much.

I think its a good idea to get checked out to rule out any possible issues.

Heya!! I'm in Ontario too. I go to Lifequest clinic in Toronto. As hearmyprayers said, testing is all covered with OHIP. My insurance doesn't cover anything fertility related. Just did an IUI and that cost about $450. I think IVF runs in the $10,000 range.

I remember that lost feeling - I felt so much better after I went to my first appt with the specialist and they jumped right into the testing and helped us make a plan based on those results. All the sudden it's off your shoulders and you've got experts working with you to sort it all out.

Thank you so much!! We would end up at the clinic in Burlington. I'm just really ready to know if there is something going on that we don't know about. I guess I will have to look up our insurance info to see what is covered but it is really great to know that the testing would be covered!
