Hi

I am new to this board. I am lucky enough to have 2 lovely daughters but recently have been trying to increase our family to 3. After 18 months ttc I fell pregnant. Had some bleeding at 8 weeks but baby appeared fine, heart beating and right size. Bled again at 12 weeks and it turned out that I had lost the baby sometime after that first scan. I had a natural miscarriage which was bloody awful. 7 weeks on I am still bleeding which is not helping my mental state at all.

It appears that following my miscarriage I am suffering from menorrhagia - I think a period tagged onto the end of the m/c bleeding and just hasn't stopped. The doctor has prescribed, in the first instance, Mefenamic Acid which actually seems to work - within an hour of taking the first tablet the bleeding stopped. He has given me an 8 day course of this with a break of a day or so in the middle. The problem is that last night I was late taking a tablet and the bleeding started again - it stopped quickly once I took the next tablet. I am concerned that once I finish the course I will be right back where I started. Should I be expecting it to cure the bleeding or just treat the symptoms?

If the Mefenamic Acid doesn't work he has prescribed Provera which is Medroxyprogesterone Acetate. He hopes that this will sort out what he thinks is a hormonal imbalance and restore me to my normal cycle. He did assume that I had irregular periods before this but I didn't.

The other thing that is worrying me is that from what I've read menorrhagia due to hormonal imbalance is most common at the onset of menses and just before menopause - obviously this concerns me because I am "only" 39.

Any experience would be very welcome.

Thanks

Jacqui xx
