I have recently moved to the City with my OH who proposed just before Christmas. Luckily it wasn't imperative i work, as my OH is able to just about support both of us, but for my own sanity and independence (and wanting to be able to put at least something towards the bills) I managed to recently get a 15 hour a week job as a Support Worker. I have some health problems so didn't want to work more than 16 hours really.
The service that i am going to be working for is brand new, and they are currently building support and care plans for the Service User. They have been working to launch the service since May 2011, but due to several committing to the job then pulling out at the last minute, and one lady falling pregnant as she accepted the job, there has been major delays.
At my interview the manager jokingly referred to my age and that I was at the prime age for getting pregnant. I joked it off and didn't really reply about my TTC status but it was really obvious that she was quite frustrated with the delays and wanted to minimise any possible chances that these same issues didn't reoccur.
So far I have only done my training, and will have shadow shifts to come after that. I guess I feel slightly guilty, as we are actually TTC, well i guess more NTNP right now, but we do both want a baby and are giving it our best shot. I know my manger will be understanding and they would move me to a different service, but the services that would be appropriate for pregnant ladies are about a 20-30 minute commute from where we are at the moment, and my current Service is just a walk down the road.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Just started a new job and then fallen pregnant? How did your boss take that? Or just fallen pregnant in a job where it can be dangerous to work in if your pregnant? I've spoken to my OH about it and we talked about how we both really want to have a baby, and if it comes to it i could leave my job (instead of relocating the place of work and having to commute), but I guess I just feel a bit guilty!
