This post might end up being lengthy but I am hoping by typing it all out I can lift some weight off my shoulders!
First let me tell you about my almost 10 year old son. I met a boy when I was 16 and we started dating, moved in together when I turned 18, fought constantly so we both moved back home and decided to take some time apart. I started seeing someone else and almost immediately got pregnant. I was 19 at the time and had no clue I was even pregnant until I was almost 16 weeks along - at which point, the babies father and I had split up and I was back with my prior boyfriend, who stayed with me for the rest of my pregnancy and beyond.
In 2003 we got married and bought a house, we decided at that point to start trying for another child. There was no pressure as we were only 23 &24, plenty of time! By late 2006 we still had not gotten pregnant so decided it was time to get some help.
I went to my OB who referred me to a fertility specialist. My husband and I went in for a consult and got the ball rolling shortly after with blood work and a semen analysis. They had my use at home ovulation predictions kits for 2 cycles. Negatives all the way around. They finally had me come in for more blood work and internal ultrasound on day 14, looking for ovulation. Nothing. The following month on day 12. Nothing. The following month on day 10. Nothing. At that point they decided to monitor me for an entire cycle. Again, nothing. I was producing eggs, but they weren't maturing to the point of becoming impregnable.
At this point, they decided they needed to do an HGS. Oh ouch! That wasn't the most pleasant test in the world, as I am SURE you all know. After that I went for cultures to make sure there were no infections. At that appointment I was told the next step would be a consult with the doctor again to determine what course of action to take. A couple weeks went by and I didn't hear from anyone so I called the office and found that the doctor had left the practice and there was no one there to take his place at the moment, someone would call me back.
I was super discouraged. All this testing that they had put me through, all the months wasted and here I am now with NO doctor. I gave up. Decided it just wasn't in the cards for me. I did a couple times call to check on the status of things but there was never anything. No one to see me. I stopped calling.
This past May I was grocery shopping and I ran into the nurse practitioner who had seen me through my first pregnancy, and was no longer at my OB's office. She gave me her info and told me to call and make an appointment for my yearly at her new office, if I wished. I did.
I went to see her on June 4th. The first question she asked me is why I didn't have anymore children. I broke, for the first time in a long time and went over all the above details with her. She asked me if I wanted to try again?? All I could do was nod because I was so choked up. She took me and walked me across the hall to office of the REI (Reproductive, Endocrinology Infertility) specialist she works with and introduced me. I made an appointment for a consult on June 25th. VERY hesitant to do so. I didn't want to have to go through ALL that testing again.
My husband and I met with him and feel in love. He was very down to earth, and serious but made it feel comfortable. He advised me to have my records from the prior place transfered over, and we would go from there, but he laid out ALL the options, where we would start, what we would do next and if more was needed, what it would be. He informed us in every which was possible. We walked out of his office excited and optimistic. Especially so because he said he was optimistic that I could be pregnant by September! OF THIS YEAR! lol =)
So my husband and I filled out the request forms and sent them in to have our records transfered. I'm not going to bore you with ALL the details of what happened over the next 5 weeks, but the end of the story is the record company has lost MOST of my records, including the results from the HSG and Sperm analysis. Luckily enough, a good portion of my blood work results an internals made it over (No cultures or full pelvic exam results).
I received a call from the wonderful doctor today. I am currently on CD2, started yesterday (26 day cycle, btw) so tomorrow I have to go in and have the CD3 blood work done and an Ultrasound. Providing the Ultrasound doesn't show any cysts on my ovaries, I will be starting a round of Clomid on Sunday!! SUNDAY!!! I am beyond excited at this point. It's FINALLY happening. Just shy of our 6 year wedding anniversary and when this all started!!! =)
So, that is my very long story, but hopefully somewhere in the next 24 days, it will have a very happy ending!!!
If you've made it allll the way to the end of this, Thank you so much for taking the time to read it!
