Right, I have already said that I am not making feeds up one by one as the packet says and it seems many of you agree.

For those of you who are making up feeds and storing them in the fridge...when you have let the water cool for 30 mins and added the formula, the bottles still feel warm. Do you put them straight in the fridge or let them cool a little longer? If so, for how long?

Cheers

I fill my sink up with cold water and then stand the made up bottles in there, cools them down quicker x

I put them straight in the fridge to let them finish cooling

We cool ours in the sink before moving them to the fridge.

I have heard the odd person say that putting the bottles in hot has turned some of their food and it also makes your fridge have to work harder to keep the temp down to what it should be

I leave mine to cool first before putting them in. xx

i put mine in the fridge then add the formula when hes due a feed xx

We cheat and used ready mixed formula!!

I think i maybe the only one who makes the bottles up one by one!!!
I would think though that if you are just storing the water in the fridge and you haven't added the formula you would be ok to cool down in the fridge. But if it's the same as food you shouldn't put hot food in the fridge you should leave it to cooldown first as it acts as a breeding ground for bacteria, would have thought this would be the same with milk as thats why they tell you to use the bottle within the hour of being heated up.
Not sure if that's right just my opinion.
Sorry if i've confused the question xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi, if you are just putting water in the bottles there is no need to pop them in the fridge as its the bacteria in the milk thats the worry.

I make up bottles everynight for the next day, with just cooled boiled water, and make powder pots too. Then i just tip and shake as needed, LO takes them at room temp so its a breeze when you are out. It also means i dont have to plan my days, as i've always got bottles to go!

I used to make them up and put it in the fridge, perfectly safe, but i found this method easier, and i'm a lazy moo!

Nope - we make them as needed too! But for her night feed, we use a ready made carton to make things quicker.

We wanted to make up a batch for each day, but what my midwife said is that the powder formula is not sterile........and to make it sterile, it has to go into water that is 70 degrees or higher. So you could make up a batch & add the powder whilst the water is hot, but apparently, once the feed is made up, bacteria can start breeding again (even in the fridge) - and that's why you have to use the feed within 2 hours.

It can be a pain making them one by one if she is screaming for a bottle, but whilst she's still so young, we'd rather be on the safe side.

xx

I was wondering this too. I've been exclusively breastfeeding but wanted to start introducing a few formula feeds. So if you have to make the bottles up one at a time to ensure the formula is sterile, what would be the point in sterilising 6 bottles in one go? As they only stay sterile for 3 hours in my tommy tippie steam steriliser and that's only as long as the lid is kept shut. I'm so confused. Surely I won't have to sterilise one bottle at a time? And if so, why then, is there space for 6 in the steriliser???!!! CONFUSED!!!

I pour cold water in a bowl and place the bottle there. Once they cooled of a bit I put them in the fridge.
