hi all i had my little girl on sat and have been breastfeeding since.

at first everything was going really well she was latching on but yesterday we were struggling maybe due to us both being tired but i was wondering if anyone else as experience there baby not having a dirty nappy for a whole day while breastfeeding as she was producing nice dirty and wet nappies until last night now they have stopped!!

I'm really worried and scared something is really wrong or maybe i'm doing something wrong.

Oh and she is feeding really well again now nearly evey 2 hours for about 30 mins

:hugs: I remember feeling the same when Alyssa was born! It's fairly common - and perfectly normal - for babies not to have a dirty nappy for a long spell of time, even a week! As long as she's producing wet nappies, you know she's getting what she needs. But if you are in any way concerned, speak to your HV or a local breastfeeding consultant or support group :)

:hugs: And congratulations on the birth of little Gertie!

I know it's normal once they really get nursing for them to go up to a week without nursing, but at only a couple days old I think she should still be going alot. If she doesn't go tomorrow I would probably have her checked to be sure she is getting enough to eat, isn't loosing weight or anything.

Hebe only pooed once a week from the start and she was fine - is she weeing?? Thats what my midwife asked me when I was worried about that exact same thing. So long as she's weeing she's getting enough. ;)

Congratulations!!! And keep up the good work - there are always a few tough times to start with but stick with it and you'll be so pleased you did!

has she passed meconium yet? Are her nappies still wet if not dirty? Is she happy in herself? I'd definitely discuss with midwife but try not to panic, my little girl didn't have a dirty nappy that often initially although once she'd passed the mec there was a dirty nappy every feed. My little girl was born on a sat and hadn't passed all the mec until the tues. Hope this helps

breast milk is tailor made for your baby so there isnt alot of waste, its very normal for babies (bfed) not to poo for up to 10days.

good luck dont give up, its awesome!

Don't worry Laura, this happened to me as well. For about three days in the first week, Tristan had no dirty nappies and I was totally worried - especially as this leaflet someone had given me said that they should do one every day. I ended up crying hormonally, phoning up midwife, ward I was on in the hospital and NHS 24 to get some reassurance (total hormonal worry overdrive). I was told by all three that it is completely normal - the baby is just using all the nutrients for growing and that even up to about a week is normal.

Sure enough, about a couple of hours after getting off the phone to NHS 24, Tristan did a massive nappy!

Try not to worry,

xxx
