HI!!! I am back after about 4 months! I have been on here before but have gave up hope but now Im back with a whole new attitude lol ..So heres a lil history. Im 24 years old. I have one son who is 6 yrs old. I have been with my current husband for 4 years who also has a child but we both have a child with another person. We have had sex unprotected and with me not taking birth control since we been together. Couldn't get pregnant for nothing! I finally had the nerve to ask for help. I seen a gyno who didn't care really much about me not having a period since I got pregnant with my son. But he was real nice and helped me out with clomid after my husbands semen analysis came back normal, my hsg showed no blockage and I was not premenopausal)... I had my prog level tested for every dose prescribed on clomid (50mg-100mg) and my levels were horrible~!! (like 0.02 one time and 0.05 the other time) The doctor finally said to give 150 mg one try and if that didn't work then ..well..I would have to be sent to a specialist. Which, I know before you have a baby you should be financially ready... but specialist costs an arm and leg and I just gave up hope...I didn't even take the 150mg yet because I just gave up! I was so down. Anyways. so I went to the health dept for my annual and I met the best doctor I have ever seen. She was great! She actually cared that I was trying to conceive and cared that I didn't have periods! She prescribed me provera and told me that I need to have a period once every 4 months. I mentioned Metformin to her not thinking that she would care because its the health dept and they usually do not help with TTC. But low and behold she became my angel. ITs like God was telling me to keep going. Like he has something in store for me bc I know his timing is the right time. Anyways she asked me some questions and told me I had PCOS( which I figured). She then prescribed me 2000mg of metformin. She told me to take provera ASAP as well and to take just 1000mg of metformin for a week til my body gets used to it. well Today is my 4th day. Only side effect I had was (tmi) diarrhea and cramping like in the middle of the night and lately I have been craving everything!!! Did anyone else experience that? before that I had went on a calorie restriction diet and lost 9lbs and I Read that most ppl lose a lot of weight on it and so Im scared I will gain! So Im trying to force myself not to eat a lot. Im scared to let the dr know cuz I think she will take me off it and I do NOT want to. She also said that if I do NOT get preg in 3 months then she will want me to do clomid with it as well. But she sounded SO positive that I WILL get pregnant..anyone have any success stories or any additional info on metformin? Thank you so much (sorry for rambling on)

Diarrhea and stomach cramping are very common with metformin. I have been on it for over four years, and if I forget to take it for a day and take my next dose, it is a given it will give me diarrhea. I lost weight while I was on it, and it regulated my cycle. I conceived naturally while on it (I have ten month old twin girls), and I was following a low GI/low carb diet. I have PCOS, insulin resistance, and hypothyroidism. The met helps control the high testosterone levels caused by the PCOS and IR. These two often go hand in hand. My ob/gyn referred me to an endocrinologist because they treat metabolic diseases. He was extremely helpful in getting all of my hormone levels under control. Good luck with your journey!! Feel free to ask me any other questions about it.

Twin34mom it doesnt increase the chance of twins does it ? (Met) x

Bluestars, I have not heard of metformin increasing the chance of twins. Our twins are the third set within my immediate family and fourth set on my mom's side, so for me, I know it is def hereditary.

Thank you. Ana wow thats a lot of twins haha! Xxx

Hi there..
I was taking clomid first and then gp combined the clomid with metformin. I fell pregnant with my first child within 3 months (last august) but unfortunately had a miscarriage at 6 weeks as i was advised to stop metformin due to pregnancy. It was a week later after stopping metformin i miscarried!! Then read online that continuing metformin during pregnancy is sometimes advised as it reduces chances of miscarrying :( wish i had knew that at the time. So im still trying a year later.. On the positive side metformin also helped me shift 2 stone in weight. I was a size 16 and now a size 10. So gynae is referring me for ivf as i am now meeting bmi standards for ivf. Fingers crossed. Best of luck in conceiving your baby and if you are succesful please talk to a trusted gp about if you should continue the metformin in your pregnancy. I wouldnt wish what i went through on my worst enemy :( lots of love xxx

After 3 years of trying on our own, DH and I finally started seeking help. After 2 years we finally figured out that our magic combination is Clomid (100mg days 5-9) 2000mg Metformin daily and then I trigger shot of ovidrel once those follicles were big enough. We were blessed with a baby girl in Nov 2011. Now we are trying again and hoping that the same combo works again. Best of luck to you. Ovidrel make me ovulate. Without it I am a 35 day cycle with no ovulation.

I stayed on the metformin until I was 12 weeks pregnant with my first.
