Hi I am starting ivf in hopefully a couple months and had a question. We r doing ivf because after we got pregnant we found out the baby had cystic fibrosis. Pregnancy ended at 14 weeks. We r doing Ivf for genetic testing to make sure baby will b healthy. What should I expect how long do u take shots for. When does the man donate sperm Is it the day they retrieve the eggs? I'm nervous bc in June and July my husband and I are in 2 weddings and I'm scared there going to call and say ok u have to come give sperm now n we will miss the wedding or worse my husband will say no I'll come tomorrow bc he doesn't get u have to do what they say when they say it unless I'm wrot on that. I'm not holding off on doing ivf so I just wanted to know what to expect do they call you last minute like that or what happens? Thank u for ur help! :) also they r creating probes now so they can do the genetic testin does anyone know what probe is?

Hello! Every doc is a bit different and it depends on your cycle. Having said that, I'm my case (also did ivf, twice) it was 1-2 weeks of sub-q shots (small needle) to hyperstimulate the ovaries (along with other meds). I was monitored by ultrasound every few days. Then at the right time I had the "trigger" shot, which is an intermuscular (longer needle) shot. Then a few days later was the egg retrieval, (again, timing depends on how the follicles in the ovaries look) and the same day they will ask for sperm. New meds begin (I did 4 different ones, including shots everyother day) and then 3-5 days after retrieval they did the implantation. Then is the two week wait to see if you are pregnant. (during which labs will be drawn to check hormone levels) Same meds continue unless adjustments need to be made based on labs. After that, meds usually continue for a while to support the preganancy.
As for the probes, sorry, I have no experience with that.
The timing for everything depends on your body, and yes you are held to that timetable pretty tight, you should know 2-3 days ahead of time what you will be doing though. Rest times have been 1 day for retrieval and 2 days for implantation. Hope that helps! Good luck!
