Hi all we had new windows fitted yesterday and the stuff theu used to seal them in stinks now our bedroom wasnt done but the smell filled the flat I had doors all closed and new windows open but ive woken today with a bad head and feel like shit im worried this has done the baby harm. Most annoying is we cant have the windows open between 8am and 5 requested by the builders doing work due to dust etc and im waiting on a parcel to arrive so I cant step out my neighbours are being done today and although the windows are shut the smell is strong. Can this type of thing hurt the baby

Further note got docs later today so will check with her but its just down right scary as we rent where we live and had no choice as when it was to be remodelled just hope its done before baby arrives poor mite

hey hun i just had my kitchen and bathroom done and know what your talking about they use the same stuff for seeling it reeks so bad doesnt it :-(

i dnt think its harmful to breath in the fumes hun we got left a COSHH booklet about all the things they would be using and if they were hazardous and as far as i can remember didnt say it was harmfull to breath in the fumes of sealent :-)

Hi hun thanks for reply we havent been given anything to read not sure what their using. We werent told about vetilation drying time anything really rebothers me its eco friendlier stuff thete using i.e solar windows eco insulation stuff its the smell and wherr tjete restricting our use of windows its trapped its has been so stressful I just want it finished I may get oh to ring the company to find out those cosh thingies you were on about. Thanks

:hugs: our work was carried out by the council so they had to do all the heath and safety checks and they had big safety boards up etc

i imagine it is just normal window sealent they had to do it in our house you should be fine hun try not to worry could you not just go out anyway then collect yoru parcel fromt he collection depot another day :-/

We had our windows replaced just a few weeks ago...it didn't smell as bad as what you say, so they may have used a different sealant. In either case I don't think it could harm your baby, so don't worry. Maybe just go out for the day and just have the parcel redelivered if it bothers you at all. Any smell we did have was gone within a day, but we did have the windows open.

Yeah I may just go out lol I was super excited its my reusable nappies coming and I just couldnt wait lol like a kid at christmas. Ours Is council too but ibeen subcted to another company as well as british gas so hopefully its all safe its just bothersome whem all you want is a safe enviroment

I'm not in a council flat, but from what I hear they seem to put decent windows and that in them...means it will last longer I guess. So yeah, I wouldn't worry, as they won't put anything dangerous in your house...the smell may be annoying and give you a bit of a headache, but I don't think it will hurt you, or the baby. :)

also, yay for nappies! I've just decided to wash all mine again (I have to, put them all away nicely covered by a blanket, and somehow the cat still managed to pull back the blanket and cover them in hair :/ this time they're going straight in the drawer! :D)

our were contractors hun but council have to be really careful who they choose to do there work so they not cowboys etc
i wouldnt worry about any harm to bubba hun youll be fine it just stinks doesnt it lol the one they used in our house smelt really strongly of vinegar or something even when they was doing it in kitchen you could smell it all the way upstairs in bedrooms was mingin :-(

I highly doubt its unsafe sweet, but get yourself some fresh air as soon as you can :)

It probably will be the solvent cleaner they use once windows are fitted before sealing to clean them it is very strong, I used to fit windows. Maybe open all windows and try and get out for a few hours?!.
