Hello everyone... wanted to introduce myself, my name is Christine. I delivered our son two weeks ago via c-section, I was 32 weeks along.
My story...
Went in for a sonogram on July 9th because my thyroid levels had jumped up. The doc said the baby was measuring 3lbs, which is small, and the umbilical cord was having a back flow effect which was not right. It also showed that I had too much amniotic fluid and my placenta was starting to fail. They didn't have any explanations for any of this and I didn't have any symptoms at all... I wasn't swollen, blood pressure was great and baby was kickin' and movin' around. So it was a complete shock to me when he told me I was being admitted and most likely will deliver by the end of the week.
I burst into tears and thank God my sister was with me. I can handle just about anything but this was a whole new ballgame for me! I felt completely helpless, as I'm sure all of you have felt as well.
Over the course of the next few days, they gave me two steroid injections to give baby's lungs a boost. They hooked me up to monitors and we waited. Originally the doc said I could be induced Friday morning and try for a vaginal birth, but I started having contractions Wednesday and by Thursday every time I had one, the baby's heart rate would drop. So Friday morning came and the doc said it was too risky and c-section was the way to go... I agreed completely!
By 10:04 am our little boy was born, which up until that point we had been team yellow. I had to be completely asleep as I wasn't allowed any spinal, but when I woke up, the first person I saw was my husband and I knew by his face that it was a healthy baby... and a boy (lol). It was an incredible moment!!!
As of now, two weeks after birth, Peter is doing great. He just came off the cpap and out of the billy lights. He is still being tube fed, but thankfully I am able to breast feed, as that is something I had wanted to do, and he is taking very well to it.
But it has been an incredible emotional roller coaster... and I look forward to chatting with all of you and getting and giving support.
