Newbie to gd and insulin

Hi any other ladies on insulin for gd?im 32 weeks and Just started on a dose of 4 units before bed only. Just wondering hiw long does it take before it starts to lower your blood glucose readings.

Used injections of humilin now for two nights but morning before breakfast still high 6.0 this morning. Should it start to reduce soon eg I. Few days worth of insulin injection overnight? Thanks

I thought insulin was quite quick acting, so no need for it to build up over a few days. What are your bloods like before bed?

You might need more because humilin is a long acting insulin but it takes effect the day you inject it.. it lasts a few hours but if readings are still quite high you may need a little more I would talk to ur Dr and see what they say good luck! (I am a type 1diabetic and was on humilin before being switched to an. Insulin pump)

4 units isnt much, and likely wont make any impact, I am on 38 over night, Humilog N and about 30 per meal Humalog reg.

I'm type 1 but had what they thought was GD in my pregnancy. They usually start you on 4 units at first then build up if its not effective. Do you have a diabetes specialist nurse you can phone through the week? 6.0 isn't high but i know the rules/readings for pregnancy can be quite tight! x
