I know it's probably inevitable but I'm so upset that my LO is starting to lose his hair on top of his head :( He was born with a decent amount of dark hair all over and it's almost all fallen out on top and thinning on the sides and back...he's starting to look like a little old man with a receding hairline lol! I feel like I worked hard for that hair (horrid heartburn almost the entire pregnancy) and I hate that its falling out!! Will it ALL probably fall out so that I can prepare myself?? When does it start to come back in?

You do know that the heartburn thing is a myth?;) don't worry the hair will grow back but it may be a bit different, lighter, curlier, straighter or darker xx

With my lo by the time he was growing back hair on top he was losing the back but he did look like a monk for a little while! :haha: I was actually delighted when it fell out, it was the brightest orange I've ever seen and covered his shoulders, back, he even had a little beard going on! Now at 5 months he has the most beautiful head of thick blond hair :happydance:

I also had horrendous heartburn x

It's not a myth, there are studies that show its true.

He may lose it all or it could stop falling out, its hard to tell unfortunately!

I can't say for all babies...but my son was born with a head full of dark, straight hair. Poor fella lost all his hair (even sported the bald patches all over his head) and around 8 months it started coming back...but it was blonde (which is turning light brown and will turn dark for sure) and its CURLY, super tight ringlet curls that makes ever woman we pass melt and super thick.

I have awful heartburn in pregnancy and W was bald until she was well over 1

one study I read said 80% of women with heartburn have babies with lots of hair, so its not 100% lol

Lol I think most pregnant women get heartburn so I doubt there's any real correlation :haha:

OP my first lost all her hair, she looked like a bald old man. It grew back though quite quickly :)

Phoebe has a bald patch on the back of her head! Waiting to see what happens. A friend's daughter was born with jet black hair and now its blonde at 3 years!

So true I had terrible heart burn and my lo was a baldy until 15 mths!

My first LO was my worst heartburn and was almost completely bald. She lost whatever little bit she had at first and was still mostly bald at 1. My second LO has a full head of black hair and so far it's staying put.

My 2 were both born with a full head of hair. It fell out a bit for each of them, mostly around the sides, but not fully and quickly grew back

There seem to be one or two studies looking into it but they seem to be based on the mothers' word as opposed to any way of actually physically measuring the severity of the heartburn scientifically also the studies I have seen have been small studies, also they don't account for ethnicity and other factors that might make a difference. And it's not the hair that causes the heartburn but that slightly higher levels of oestrogen may cause baby to have slightly thicker or more hair and may also cause muscles to be more lax, meaning heartburn is more likely. All of mine have been born with relatively little hair but my two sons born with slightly thicker hair were the two where I had almost no heartburn in pregnancy at all. My two I had the worst heartburn with were baldies and my youngest who I had just the worst heartburn ever with, he was born practically bald and all his hair rubbed off very quickly and is only just growing back and it's very fine xx

Oh my gosh, it's the worst!! My daughter was born a head full of black beautiful hair...and then it fell out on top but not around the sides and she looked like a middle aged accountant, it was dreadful!! It fell out around 3 months and grew back around 5-6 months. Now she has enough hair to make a top knot, totally adorable and still way more hair than most her age! It is awful isn't it...headbands and hats for a few months!

One of mine lost it all on the top then it started growing back in. The other just kind of thinned all over but still has some long hairs and never looked bald.

My son was born with almost no hair and I had horrible heartburn. I have had only mild bouts of heartburn with this pregnancy due to feet pushing up the bottom of my stomach (seen on ultrasound) and she has so much hair that the 2D scan can pick it up. I think baby's position and size has more to do with heartburn in later pregnancy and in early it's hormone related. I think that it is a myth about that as well.

My sons hair didn't ever fall out or thin, though.

DS2 was born with a full head of hair but he never lost any of his so I didn't even know that was a usual occurrence. He's also had 9 haircuts already and he's only 19 months old so maybe he's just a hairy dude :)
