Hello mummies :)

Me and my angel are day 6 after birth today, she is a super happy squishy baby and a champion feeder.
But usually about twice in 24 hours she'll have an episode of screaming constantly and passing gas or struggling to for 30 mins - an hour. I know it's not that bad but I hate seeing her like this, I'm doing my best to not breakdown when it happens but ouch my heart

I've started using infacol today and hope to see an improvement in the next few days.
My question is: when I give her the infacol she cries and it makes me feel so insanely guilty even though I think it's overall better than having all those stress hormones in her body from the screaming.

For those of you who have used infacol, did baby cry when you gave it? Did they get used to it?

Also was wondering how long people needed to use infacol for before their baby grew out of struggling with wind?

Thanks for reading, this new parenthood thing is so up and down

Lexi is 5 weeks and we have been using infacol for about 4 now. Strangely she seems to love the taste and smacks her lips after having it.

Things that have helped are to wind her after every ounce and keep her in an upright position for 20-30 mins after a feed where possible.

DD1 struggled with wind, we tried Infacol but it didn't work for us although as far as I remember she didn't mind taking it. We had some success with winding more frequently during feeds and trying lots of different winding techniques to make sure it was all up. Also colic massage (on Youtube if you want to try it) always did the trick and got rid of some wind from the other end!

Good luck :flower:

When we noticed that Isabella was struggling with wind we started using it at every feed for a few days. She usually improved within 2/3 days and didn't need it for weeks after that. It's safe to give at every feed so you don't need to sorry about that. It's better she has it than being hysterical and in pain xxx

hello! defo stick with it, it took about 5 days for it to start working on Charlie and we actually give a double dose to him at every feed. its helped SO much! he used to be in quite a lot of pain with trapped wind and although it hasnt cured it 100% its defo helped a lot!
as PP said, try and keep little one upright for as long as poss after each feed and also do keep patting/rubbing/changing shoulders etc to wind and try and get that nice big burp up! once it started working on Charlie, he usually has a good amount of trumping too, usually whilst we feed him!
good luck :)

I don't have any personal experience with infacol but...

Don't underestimate how often you need to wind within/during a feed in order to stop it building up.

Plus I found it and really helpful to keep changing the baby's position when winding rather than just persistently trying one. So over the shoulder for a bit, then sat up for a bit, then cycling legs for a bit etc.

And you need to be more vigorous when patting/rubbing back then you might think!

Best of luck!

If infacol isn't going down too well you could try dentinox instead. Infacol was a gift from the angels themselves with my son and worked like a charm. It did absolutely nothing at all for my daughter. One fraught trip to tesco later and the dentinox was in my hand and all was well again after some window rattling belches! You need to watch the dosage though, they can't have as much as they can with infacol.

As someone else said - don't underestimate the amount of winding they need. I could feed her for 15 minutes and wind her for an hour. Stick with it though and keep smiling, the windy issues don't last for very long.

Infacol made my son sick as did gripe water. The gp ended up diagnosing him with colic and prescribed us colief drops to be added to his milk - worked a treat alongside a change to comfort milk.

The winding is unreal. I'd spend ages winding Ollie for him to still struggle to get it all up I found overy my shoulder best.

Thanks so much for your helpful imput and stories ladies :)

Things seem to be improving, she still gets fussy and sort of cries while trying to pass gas but mostly it doesn't develop into screaming. Thinking it's a mix of her getting used to it and us getting better at helping her.
Too soon to tell if the infacol is helping but she has started to like it so I feel much more relaxed giving it to her and not so bad :) Phew. Just hope that soon she is less gassy.
Been getting much more hot on the burping and try to make sure she brings up a big burp or two as she is going on and off the breast during feeds.

Another question (sorry it's silly): She has started getting more active, kicking her legs and wriggling around and goes from being unsettled to content and back again, because it's so new it makes me think she's unhappy and I worry... Is it normal for her to kick and wriggle and squirm and look so unsettled? During those episodes she seems to prefer not being held and kicking around on the bed?
I know I sound daft

Infacol and gripe water did nothing for my LO but dentinox colic drops were a god send. We only stopped using dentinox when she was about 7 months old because I was too scared to stop.
As others have said, wind her and wind her some more. It may take ages for it to come up. I used to find putting her down and sitting her up slowly used to do the trick.

Kicking legs and wriggling is prob her trying to get wind out the bottom. Try pumping her legs up and down and you might find it moves things along a bit quicker.
