Was wondering how long the whole process of referral to commencement of IUI actually takes?

I think it's different everywhere hun.
Maybe you could ask at your FS appt & they might be able to tell you the approx times? :flower:

Fingers crossed you don't need it tho! x

Yeah im hoping we wont need it but i'm beginning to lose hope. Next appt with FS is in dec after lap and dye in nov. Have had hsg which was fine. There is a slight male factor issue but wanted the 'gold standard' with lap and dye just to make sure before referral for iui. i've have 2 mmc s followed by ERPC and was worried about adhesions as have not had a bfp since ERPC dec '08. Anyway im going on abit! Was just wondering how long the whole process was as hopefully will be referred in dec which seem like ages away in its self!! Anyway as you said fingers crossed! Thanks x

Hi Norah,
We are in the process of being referred for iui at the moment. We had our FS appointment on tuesday where they also took our bloods to screen for HIV and hepatitis which you have to have before they will start IUI/IVF. They take 2-3 weeks and in the meatime we were given some information to decide on which fertility clinic we wanted to then be referred to for treatment.

For me, waiting times was a big factor so I just rang up the clinics! I dont know where in this country (or another country) you are but we are in cambridgeshire and were given the choice of Bourn hall, Leicester, Oxford (with choice of herts and essex centre), plus two in london. The details of some of those are in my recent post on my journal (see link below) but it really depended on the clinic. Some were 2 months to get initial appointment after receiving the referral letter and then 4 month wait to start treatment. However, others were 1 week for first appointment and then start on next cycle!

If you know which clinics you will have a choice of I would ring them up as at least you can then start mentally preparing for the timescales. Did you get given a contact number for a fertility nurse or anything who works with your fertility specialist? They may be able to tell you which clinics you will have a choice of and then you could ring up.

Goodness that turned out to be long! But I hope it helps as I felt in limbo when not having a clue of the timescales.

Love fluffy xx

Thanks fluffystar,
so basically it will just depend on the clinic we attend. We were just told of the nearest place offering IUI the FS did not actually give us a choice and told us thats where she will be referring us.
Im just hoping that I get my BFP before dec! But if not, as I suspect I just wanted to prepare myself for another wait if thats whats going to happen. I hate all this waiting!, waiting for OV waiting for AF or possible BFP, waiting for investigations waiting for appts etc....
Thanks for all the info though it was very helpful x x
