There is a lady in my city that is throwing a community baby shower for two pregnant women who can't afford any baby things and don't know anyone in town. This is honestly the nicest thing I've seen in a while and it restored a little of my faith in humanity. She's posting all over the online classifieds, trying to get as many people as she can to come (even if they can't bring anything) to support these two girls.
I have such a heavy support network in my family, even if I've only got a couple of friends, and I can't imagine having no one to lean on during all of this. I'm not entirely sure of their situations (I've just gotten involved today) but all either of them has so far is some baby clothes. I started crocheting them some baby blankets right away, and I'm going to spend the rest of the week cruising the second hand stores for furniture.
It's just SO nice! What a wonderful thing to do for these girls! I think it may be a surprise party, and it'll definitly be shocking. The lady organizing is trying to get 40 people to come!
