Hi ladies, I have started applying nipple cream today to prep myself for breastfeeding and wondered if you had any tips on which were the best nipple shields to buy - I have bought avent bottles and breast pump stuff so would I be best sticking to the same brand or does it not matter?

Thanks.

Marie

i used the avent ones with my first and they were brilliant i have already brought some in prep for wen my little lady arrives x

I used a medela nipple shield for a few weeks. But you do know that you shouldn't use shields unless your baby has a problem latching right? Sometimes they can interfere with supply, so should only be used when necessary and under the guidance of a lactation consultant.

I was told when LO was first born that he was going to have problems latching on my right side, and that I would need to use a shield (the nipple wouldn't harden and so he couldn't get a good latch) but within days he was latching on fine - definitely check with a lactation consultant before using em :)

i wouldn't recommend it. i used one it did affect my supply!!

Thanks I just want to be prepared in case I need to use them - I will see how it goes xx
