urgh!! My daughter has them and i found one in my hair  Wet combing my hair is a long pain staking hell as my hair is so thick. Does anyone know if a lotion like derbec m is ik to use in pregnancy?? I hate the bloody things!!!

Not sure about what to use for it, but I have heard that they only like clean hair. So worst case scenario, if you can't use anything for it just try not washing your hair for a few days and see if that does the trick.

look at products before you buy them are they safe for your use?or even go to your doctor and ask can they give you anything or warn you what not to use, just keep on with the combing it maybe depressing but if you can rid yourself of them do it!there are sprays to shampoos SO gotta be somethinng you can use.

Always thought it was dirty hair they liked. But then learned that was a myth as in dirty people have them. So I think anyone could get them. I wouldn't know off hand if it's safe. It could be like hair dye which some people frown upon but really there's no research that says it's actually harmful. I would ask the pharmacist and see what they think?

Not sure hun, but they have natural ways to get rid of them..

I think mayonaisse & vinegar are some of the things that they say kill them, and of course a nit comb to get them out..

:hugs: Lice are such a pain in the butt, hope you're able to get rid of them soon. I had them when I was young and after the lice treatment my mother put olive oil in my hair and I slept with a plastic bag over my head... it left my hair oily for a few washes but they didn't come back.

Urgh... no answers but you have my sympathy, that's for sure.

I will go to the chemist but just thought some ladies would know as its nearly 10pm nothing is open lol. My hair is always clean as are my kids hair!! Argh!! :( im now sitting with the conditioner and the nit free comb watching Take That

I'm pretty sure that all the chemical type ones aren't recommended in pregnancy :(
If you leave your hair to get dirty all that will happen is the lice will reproduce - more lice!
Wet combing, although a pain, is the most effective way to get rid of them. You can try using some tea tree oil, they don't like that. That or Geranium oil, but I'm not sure if that's safe in pregnacy.
Scratching now!
Hope you get rid of them soon xxx

Tea Tree Oil shampoo will do it. Or you could buy pure tree tree oil and rub a few drops in your scalp and cover with a cap for an hour. Just make sure not to get it in your eyes. Also like with any product do a skin test 1st to make sure you are not allergic to the product.

Any hair type can get head lice doesnt matter if ur hair is short, dirty, clean etc anyone can get them, if u have a nhs pregnancy book it says in there what u can and cant use! I cannot find mine otherwise i would of told u i do remember it said wet combing! When my children had them i used conditioner and left it in whilst combing. Remember to check the hair after a week in case of any eggs that were missed....

Im not really sure what you could use but I would say go to your local chemist and see what they could advise you.

Sorry I don't really know what to say, but I hope they go away :)

I know its too late for tonight but i would go to the chemist and explain that your pregnant and need something for headlice and they will advise you best. x

We had a terrible 6 months with this a few years ago, the eldest two got them time after time after time and I was getting to the end of my tether. It turned out that there was a little girl in the eldest's class who was absolutely riddled with them and their family wasn't treating them :growlmad: So no matter how many times the rest of the class was treated, they went around again and again.

In the end we bought an electric comb that is completely safe and deals with the little blighters very quickly. Tea tree shampoo is supposed to help keep them away but the best we found was to get one of the more expensive metal combs and just keep going until you get all the eggs out.

Horrible experience but one that is easily solved with perseverance :hugs:

oh no i hate nits....every time i hear the word i scratch like mad for days eekkk 'itch itch'

i hope your able to get rid of them

big :hugs: 'although not to close' lol x x x

Both my girls got them bad a couple years ago playing softball (sharing helmet). I tried all the over the counter stuff, nothing worked until I tried a big tub of mayonnaise, slathered their hair then wrapped it in cling wrap and let it sit for 2 hours (poor things!!! I rented a movie for them) I washed it out then the next morning did it again. Worked like a charm! I had to throw away all the brushes and hair ties in the house and washed all bedding and throw rugs and vacuumed like 3 times a day but they were gone in no time!!! Good luck!!!!!

I hear that if you slather and comb mayonnaise in your hair nd cover with a cap for a while it helps. Good luck :hugs:

I used the over night hedrin lotion on my daughter the other week and put some on me too, i didnt even think to check if it was safe to use in pregnancy.....oops!

well, bubs is still fine and kicking so it didnt do him any harm...and the horrible infestation has gone thankfully. I like hedrin because you dont need to comb it through, they just die and fall out all over the pillow by morning..yuk...

I have a real thing about nit combs, seeing them scrape through hair makes me all cringy for some reason...*shudders*

Poor you! I did volunteering in a school last week and all of the children were fine but the teacher was scratching like mad! As far as im aware a lot of conditioner can do the trick with a comb. If not a pharmacist could tell you which is best. Hope they go soon!

Here's what my purple NHS pregnancy book says:

Head lice:
First choice - Wet combing. Dimeticone lotion.
Second choice - If ineffective, head lice treatments containing malathion in water (aqueous lotion).
