When a kid is 2 or under, some elements of this type of communication have been shown to help kids learn language. i.e. the exaggerated intonation. I also find that occasional third person for clarity helps my two year old who hasn't mastered pronouns yet. However, the post is talking about 3 to 7 year olds? And baby words are never helpful and neither is the invasion of personal space. I remember adults using that form of communication though. It certainly was obnoxious and weird.
