Hi all, hope you can help.
My daughter has been in half day preschool and I have employed a childminder for the last year to drop her off and pick her at midday and keep her until 5pm.
She starts full time school in September. The problem is my childminder has said she can not do wrap around( drop off pick up) next year due to numbers ratios and the fact that she is taking on a baby.

I have rang around all local childminders and they are full!

The local breakfast after school club which is not run by the school just a husband and wife team have shocking ofsted inspection reports. They have been served some sort of notice because every year they have been warned to do crb checks on themselves and their staff and have failed to do so.
Also there are other worries, none of them have first aid traing, they have to walk quite far from the school to the club and the inspection has issues on this and their ratios.

What do I do. I have a mother in law who is elderly and can't walk so can not help and no other family!!

How settled are you on the school? Our school do breakfast (8am-8.50am) and afterschool club (3.30-6.30pm, but you can pay per hour if that's all you need) , I thought most schools did that these days, it's a shame yours don't, and there's no chance Id be sending mine to the club ran by the couple it sounds awful.
I'm sorry that no immediate suggestions are coming to me x

I know I was so shocked when I read all the years inspection reports.

I am really set upon the school, it is our local one and my daughter has already made friends in the nursery there.

I have no options. I could scream. I'm hoping to phone the head of the school and ask for her take on the club and the inspection reports.

The head tried to get a school run after school club but governors turned it down stating they needed the hall for music clubs

That's a shame. I'm not actually sure where our afterschool club takes place as I guess our hall also gets used after school for clubs and rainbows/brownies etc. ive only had to use it once and hubby picked them up and it's never crossed my mind until now, im presuming one of the classrooms or library maybe.
How frustrating for you. Hope someone comes along with a suggestion.

Are there any private nurseries near you? Some of them do pick ups and after school care. Alternatively are there any of your friends kids at the school, would they be willing to pick up for you and look after your LO for a bit?

I assume cutting or changing your hours at work isn't an option?

I had to change my hours for the same reason. No childminder to do drop off and pick up and our school also has no breakfast or after school club. Fortunately I work part time so was able to split my hours over 4 days instead of 3 to get around the problem. It's hugely frustrating though so I feel your pain.

Have you made any friends with other mums? Could they not help at all? Maybe come to some agreement and pay them a small amount.

I don't see why using the hall for music clubs should stop them having a breakfast club, to be honest that is very behind the times. Are you able to negotiate any working from home or anything like that?

I had this dilemma. It temporarily resolved (I'm on maternity leave) but if I can't get a childminder my plan is and remains to take my lunch break at school pick up time then drop children and a different childminders and return to work. Basically a long first half of working day and short second half.

You could drop your child at a childminders or to your MIL.

Obviously I don't know what you do but is it possible that you could make up hours working from home in the eve or one day at weekend
