No longer sterilising.... When did you stop sterilising?

Isn't it amazing the different advice given in different countries?
All water in 1st world countries is generally safe but yet Ireland and Uk guidelines are different to the US about using boiled water for bottles.
As for bacteria milk is rife with the stuff and so I will continue to sterilize till 12 months and stick them in a container of milton once a week after that.

I actually never sterilized my son's bottles (boiling in a pot of water or microwave bags).

I would soak his bottles in hot soapy water in the sink, wash them with a bottle brush, and hang them to dry on the bottle rack. He has never been really sick (just the odd cold), but nothing compared to some kids who parents were anal about sterilizing.

I am also one of those moms who...

- if his bottle drops on the floor I clean it off with whatever I have handy (baby wipe, wet cloth, my clothes)
- right from when we came home from the hospital I never heated up his bottles, and always had about 10 waiting in the fridge; mostly he would just drink them right from the fridge, and who has time to make bottle by demand when you have a newborn.

His immune system is great, and the first year was a breeze.

The more I read about it the more I wonder if it really is necessary. I know about the bacteria, however like you I'm not at all anal about keepig a sterile environment and dd is absolutely fine.
I always washed her bottles with hot water and bottle brush but as soon as she was crawling around outside and putting all sorts of things in her mouth I stopped sterilising her bottles, was around 6/7 months. I also kept bottle made up for her.
To be honest I expect I will sterilise for the first couple of months but I definately won't be so worried about things. You forget that we actually live in a first world country with perfectly clean drinking water.
I do make bottles up with a shot of boiling water and top up will cool water to make sure any bacteria in the milk are killed. Can't wait to get the tommee tippee perfect prep!

It's no longer advised in Australia to sterilise bottles at all. Just wash in warm soapy water.
I stopped when lo started putting everything in his mouth :)

We're considering stopping now, I want my kitchen top back!

The point is Hadley drinks tap water now and she is forever putting anything she can find in her mouth. She rolls about on the floor with the dog. I'm not sure what I'm protecting her from by sterilizing. I'm quite capable of cleaning the bottles properly with soapy water.

Quite. As long as you wash the bottles properly with hot water to get rid of all the old milk I can't see it being a problem.
When dd was outside picking up mud and all sorts I felt it wasn't really worth sterilising!

Wow, I was still sterilising bottles for my eldest until we stopped giving him bed time bottles of formula at 18 months!
Think I went in too long!

I only sterilise once a day for LO, all his bottles first thing, then take a bottle as I need it through the day.

I'm always concerned that as formula is not a sterile product & can contain bacteria that I want to make sure anything in there is gone and use boiling water to mix the formula & kill the bacteria then cool it and store it in the fridge until needed.

Till she is on cows milk. here it is recommended to sterilise while formula is used. i really dont find sterilising that much work tbh

I stopped when my first DS was a few months old. My 3rd is 5.5 months! I love the dishwasher!!!
